Lake would get in no problem. We was only talking about that team at the last home game, I agreed with one of my mates that we ruined Redmond, he was captaining a very poor side at 19. Ian Scott was an excellent and often forgotten player who like Lake was ruined by injury early on. White may have got a place on the bench and Brightwell would have been a good squad player a bit like Zabba was before he started holding down a place.
I think Ian Scott was quite highly thought of at the club at one time. He made his debut in the first game of the 87/88 season iirc, which was around the same time as Hinchcliffe. He scored a goal against Millwall early that season but fell away due to an almost complete lack of physical presence imo, injury or not.

He was sold to Stoke and slipped down the leagues, sadly. Must be a difficult and cruel way for a football career to play out.

In terms of the OP: Paul Lake.

David White might be an option from the bench, I guess.

Edit: found that Millwall game.

I was there! Just 15,430 at that midweek Millwall game. I remember it because we played so well and the gate was so low. Didn't Millwall eventually go up that season (Casarino and Sheringham up front)?

They did and we played them in the top flight the next season but one, as they stayed in the first division the season we got promoted.

I seem to remember Mark Ward scoring at the (Old?) Den, a little while after Kendall came to the club in a 1-1 draw.

I remember Terry Hurlock from that team as much as Cascarino ans Sheringham. He wouldn't stay on the pitch for ten minutes today!

Now then, seen as Mancini is starting to give some of the youth lads a game here and there, I've been thinking how many of the youth cup winning team from 86, would be good enough to hold down a regular place in the current side, for me the core of that team which was Hinchcliffe, Redmond, Brightwell, Lake, White, Moulden and Scott, at least 4 would get in the current team.

The full 12 is :

1. Crompton
2. Millis
3. Hinchcliffe
4. Brightwell
5. Redmond
6. Thackeray
7. White
8. Moulden
9. Lake
10. Scott
11. Boyd
12. Macauley

Have a look and decide who you think would be good enough.

He could teach the present squad how to take a corner!

Good point DE!

Lake and at a stretch possibly Hinchcliffe. The rest of them wouldn't have stood a chance. And I don't mean that nastily as I have fond, fond memories of that whole group of players.

I remember walking past two (genuine) policemen and hearing one laughing and saying "I've just seen two Hitlers walk past".
