I will always appreciate the pivotal role he has played in our success but it's starting to look like last summer was the absolute perfect time to let him leave.
He was benched in the first half of last season because he couldn't play the inverted role in the 3-2 system and the fact that he's not a natural centre-back meant we were playing with four centre-backs for most of the run-in.
His main strength was that he could always outpace or outmuscle whoever he came up against but he is now regularly getting skinned by wingers and his contribution in the final third is painful to watch at times.
Unfortunately with the injury records that Stones and Ake have, and the fact that we made him captain, he is currently one of the first names on the teamsheet.
