Being mugged by a junkie or stabbed by a yob in the street, western values the human rights activists demand on different culture.
 
The guy now lives in Qatar and sends two of his kids to school there. He's hardly going to badmouth them lest they deport him. He won't want to go back to Switzerland and face some more awkward questions over his relationship with the attorney general.

He moved there after things became difficult for him in Switzerland when rumours surfaced of secret meetings with the attorney general who was supposed to be investigating FIFA. Not too surprising that he's moved to the Middle East as he does have a wife of Lebanese heritage who still has relatives in the Gulf.
 
Can't shake the feeling that something abominable is going to happen at this World Cup that'll be remembered forever.

Maybe I'm being melodramatic. Just feels like this is building up to one of football's big tragedies. So much that can go wrong and so much that already has.

If nobody's died in a month then I'll call it a relief.

Honestly, I was there nearly ten years. The majority of my social circle were in their 20’s and 30’s and heavy weekend drinkers, no one ever got into trouble for being drunk and a great many taxi drivers had to pull over to let people be sick.

Qatar has lost my support with its latest u-turn but people need to take a lot of what the media portray with a huge mountain of salt.
Well said mate. I’ve lived in Saudi (and Egypt) and I’d echo that.
