2022 World Cup Discussion

Germany have to hammer Costa Rica ,well +2.

Spain go through with a draw, japan need other results to go in their favour(tall ask i know).
If Japan draw 1-1 and Germany win 2-1, Japan win on head to head. However, if Germany were to win 3-2, they’d go through on goals scored. Similarly, if Japan finished goalless then a 2-1 would do for Germany.
Best bet is a Japan 1 goal win and Germany not then winning by 8 or more.…..

Just looking how it could pan out if all 4 win their groups, (and their last 16 game), England v France and Spain v Brazil as two of the four quarter finals. That does mean there are a couple of relatively softer routes elsewhere though to the semifinals.

There is no head to head, it is GD, GF, Fair Play points then lots.

Head to head is a UEFA thing (since 1996 qualifiers), FIFA never use it.

Too soon... Steady on old chap; we're still a bit raw on Lizzie's passing back here in Blighty.
At Murphys bar in Orlando (City Supporters club) which @Mad Eyed Screamer knows they opened for Lizzie’s funeral at 5:30 in the morning and had a book of condolence for her. Even on holiday I’m not going to do that but apparently plenty did, fair fucks to the expatriate community of Florida.

Just 25 days until proper football returns, hoping the World Cup comes alive after the tedious group games but at least the last round should have some jeopardy on them to make worth watching.

Head to head is not in the tie breaker rules. Corky was correct.
The sorting rules for the 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage are different to those used by UEFA in the Champions League and Europa League.

As always, teams will first be separated based on how many points they have.

But while the Champions League then uses head-to-head records to split teams that finish level on points, good old-fashioned goal difference is still king at the World Cup.

2022 World Cup Sorting Rules

Head-to-head record is the third tie-breaking method at the World Cup, after goal difference and then goals scored.

Only results from this tournament are considered in terms of the head-to-head record, so this method cannot split two teams that played to a draw during the group stage.

If two or more teams are still level based on points, goal difference, goals scored and head-to-head results, then the fair play system will be used.

Fair Play System

The team that received the fewest booking points will finish higher.

Corky and yourself are incorrect.

I got it from the FIFA World Cup Preliminary Regulations https://editorial.uefa.com/resource...minary_competition_regulations-covid19_1_.pdf

e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;
g) the goals scored away from home count double between the teams concerned (if the tie is only between two teams);
