Someone said he is the Haaland of center backs but Pep can’t even trust him there. At least when his counterparts joined, they were given opportunities at CB. This leaves so much to be desired for a Haaland of CBs.

Personally I wasn’t sold. Don’t get me wrong - I was happy to have him - a young promising CB but for circa 80m, we could do better in the market.

I'd forgive the defending if he was delivering what he did at Leipzig going forward. Looks lost in this team and probably needs to be taken out until he can come back in if we recover any form.

Being hung out to dry when we face quick wingers. Not a left back. Please stop.

lets be honest though, name me one player who looks good at the moment in this fucking awful shit show of a system.

Left completely isolated all game against a pacy 1v1 specialist, I thought he did very well in the circumstances. It's a criminally shit tactic from pep that's asking our defenders to be perfect for the entire 90 which just isn't realistic.

Same situation Ake found himself in against Wolves when Neto did him a few times. Walker can do it, (although he isnt doing it anywhere near his usual standards of late) because hes a complete 1 off freak of nature with the pace and athleticism to do it, pep needs to stop asking whoever he sticks on the left to do it too and all so we can push akanji into midfield which is giving us fuck all anyway.

Back to Gvardiol, few sloppy passes but show me one person who wasn't guilty of that but at least he was actually playing forward passes. In the very small period where we had some decent play and threat, Gvardiol was making the incisive passes.

Of all the players to criticise today he would be right at the bottom just before ederson.

Ball playing CB being played isolated against pacey wingers. He’s looked shit because that’s not what he’s meant to do. Been absolutely hung out to dry by Pep.

Must admit I thought we were buying a centre half, and yet I don't recall him playing a single game there yet.

He was class against us for Leipzig playing centrally, so don't tell me we bought him to play left back.

Walker, Dias, Gvardiol, Ake with Rodri and Stones in front of them should tighten us up a little bit.

Then let the 4 forwards get on the ball in areas, Foden, Doku, Haaland, Bernardo

pep had him play cb in the eh whatever league cup game against newcastle.

also switched him to cb after rodri’s red card in that game, so second half, he was excellent.

that’s it i think.

He looks completely devoid of the confidence he plays with for Croatia. Social media had already decided he was the reason we’d lose once the line up came out. I know most will say, given his cost, it’s sink or swim. But I do think if they want to protect him as an asset they have to put him in some situations where he will succeed. He’s 21. If we get three good years out of him at some point, it’s fine.

He's not a full back and looks it. Why we haven't signed a natural left back for years is really mystifying. I think Pep's arrogance leads him to think he can coach any player to play in any position . Comes off sometimes but not in this case.

Totally agree.
This kid could be future captain of city playing in his natural position.
But that would be too easy for Pep who wants to be the creator of something weird and wonderful with most of our signings

Most overrated defender in the world. Not fast enough to be a fullback, not strong and tall enough to be a CB.
He is a modern day Mascherano without the clutch tackling.

Eliaquim Mangala 2.0
Jesus wept. Everyone was calling Gvardiol a rolls royce defender in his first 5-6 games. Has a had a couple bad moments lately when everyone else has been playing shit as well, and he’s suddenly some liability. He’s 2 years younger than Foden and played out of position in his first season in a new league. Give it a rest

He's brilliant with both feet, but I'll admit it's hard to justify the price we paid AT PRESENT.

Important to remember he's only 21, and playing in a new position.

Dare I say it, he will be one of a few players who will improve massively when Pep leaves and he gets the chance to just play football instead of being twisted every which way.

He is and was a left sided centre back and an incredible one at that, feel sorry for him being shoved at left back it won’t work.

Deserves to be in the midfield role much more than Akanji too, who has been dreadful all season.
