Ferna has always said that he'd make a decision at the end of the season and talk to the club about it then (as they did last summer) so I wouldn't be surprised if no one at the club was aware that he is looking to leave. He might have only decided very recently and on being asked at the press conference decided to give an honest answer rather than leaving it up in the air

maybe his recent visit to Brazil swayed his decision

Yeh I agree, doesn't look good but Pep seemed pretty relaxed about it so doubt it will be much of an issue. Think there was always a feeling that this might be his last season, especially when you factor in how little he has played recently

It is the right time for Fern to leave and nobody could have given more to the club than him. Going back to Brazil to play his last years in his homeland is perfect for both him and his family

It looks like we are going a few spaces available in the squad with likely leavers being non British contingent in addition to spaces left already by Torres and Mendy

Do we genuinely think that Pep didn't know? Or was his surprise more for the cameras?

I can't see Ferna, a player who's been with us for almost 10 years - just dropping a bomb like that without Pep's knowing?

Doesn't he say he doesn't think he will sign an extension rather than he wouldn't. Either way I am sure Pep knows exactly what his intention is.

seems like he almost went last year, didn't sign till June if I remember, so after a season where he's largely been periphery it's not that surprising and TBH I think it's right for both parties. Ferna is one of city's greatest ever signings and been massive in this modern era. But for me the wage he's bringing in needs to go to someone who can bring a little more to the side then he can at 37 next season.

He can go home and do a victory lap in Brazil and hopefully rejoin City in a couple of years when he packs it in, and we can get a CM to compete with Rodri.
