I used to be able to do that, still can but a fair bit slower these days. The secret is breaking the maths down, as an example the one showed:

26 x 77

20 x 77 = 1540
Plus 6 x 70 = 420
Plus 6 x 7 = 42
Total 2002

Or

26 x 75 which is three quarters of 2600, (26 x 100) 1950 (half the 2600, 1300 plus half the 1300, 650) then 2 x 26.

Plenty of ways to do it, whatever you’re comfortable with, mostly on mobile phone calculators these days.

I must point out I’m no maths genius, just spent 10 years manually settling bets in my younger days which involved breaking down fractions so it was second nature.
