We saw the best version of Mahrez last night and he's pretty much unplayable in that state. Arguably our best player since the restart. Love the amount of effort he's putting in, phenomenal stuff.

Funnily enough I was watching a highlight video the other day of Leicester winning the league, and was quite surprised at how Mahrez looked. Beating players for fun, a real turn of pace, full of energy and goals. I was thinking although he’s been good for us and recently, he didn’t quite look the same guy as on those highlights

Well that version turned up tonight.

Mahrez will turn 32 years old in less than a month. Of course his level of athleticism is nowhere near close it used to be 7 years ago when Leicester won the Premier League.

That said, Mahrez was amazing last night but we can't expect him to perform consistently. He is in the wrong side of 30 ans can fall off a cliff anytime soon.

Finding a replacement for Mahrez should be Man City's highest priority.

Mahrez started professional football quite late and didn't suffer major injuries during his playing years. He can play many years to come at the same high level. Today, he looked like the Leicester guy again as the poster said before your post.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but is it crazy to suggest that was his best performance for the club? Not only that, but that could be the most aggressive I've seen him play for City? What a game!

And there lies the difference.....his attitude and desire.

If i had to put money on who was going to provide the drive and the fight, and ultimately inspire, during an encounter, this lad would not have been on my list even a couple of months back.

Fair fucks, the penny has dropped, and he is now looking like a different player and an automatic choice.

MOTM last night.

What a performance. We needed someone to step up and lift the team and he was the man. He's always had the brilliant first touch and trickery, but he's consistently showing so much energy to press or chase back. He knows the CL is back soon and he's booking his place in the first 11 - he's always class in Europe and with the added workrate he's showing we're going to win it!

What?

Mahrez has won four Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup three times, and captained Algeria to victory in the 2019 African Cup of Nations. He's a Champions League runner-up and has scored 4 goals in Champions League semi-finals. He's played over 200 games for City, scoring more than 60 goals. He's made over 250 PL appearances in total and has notched 78 goals in that time. He was the top scorer for last season's Premier League champions, he's won Premier League POTY and African FOTY, and he's widely regarded in Algeria as one of their greatest ever players.

He's not in good form this season and I think he needs phasing out but to act like he's never been any good is beyond preposterous.
Stand by this. Still think he needs phasing out long-term but he's in cracking form right now.

A welcome surprise last night too…every corner was on the money. Right on the six yard line and centrally.

Exceptional last night. He needs to be on it more. The talent is their and you could see he was busting a gut. For all his faults the lads body language showed us he cared. Good enough for me. Bar is set high, keep it up.

It's amazing how much of a difference going round the outside makes.

He's gotten to the byline more times in the last month than he has done in some previous seasons.
Ive been watching the third goal on repeat. Thats as text book a step over as you will ever see. Man it was sublime.

Mahrez will always have heaters here who will question his contract extension, his contribution and the value he brings to this city side, regardless of the stupid noise he continues to show his worth, well done Riyad!!!!!!!!!
His heaters are usually found in the match day thread blowing hot air and frothing at the mouth. They'll lay dormant now like a toad under a stone waiting for Mahrez to fuck up again, then they'll leap out to attack him with the tiresome FFS references and needless abuse.

I'm not his biggest fan but on his day Mahrez puts in MOTM world class performances, like last night.

a point about mahrez and why he's so good on the right wing, being left footed -

look at our first and third goals yesterday. they came from a mahrez cross and a mahrez shot on his right foot. that's what makes him so dangerous, because he's not predictable as you'd expect. sure, he'll more often cut in on his left, pass it back to a player waiting in that KDB position or take a shot himself. but he is also fully capable of immediately turning and providing quickly on his weaker foot. Something that helps him introduce doubt to defenders. When grealish takes on his fullback, they all know he's going to cut inside, because he doesn't have the left foot to go on the wing and whip in a cross or a shot. he just doesn't have the quality on his left foot whatsoever.

unless your name is arjen robben, opposite side wingers HAVE to have a good level of competency on the other foot as well, and mahrez has shown he has that in abundance.

I’m really warming to this Mahrez. Stunning performance midweek, followed by another top performance today. More please.
