I would say his shot stopping is better than average. Hes had a poor season, sure, but he has made big saves in the past and he makes all the standard saves. Its usually when his defense lets him down and hes put into a bad situation that he makes errors. Average shot stopper for this league is the likes of the keepers on the mid table teams and I would definitely put ederson above them.
Perhaps some of the comparisons made are overly harsh on Ederson. As a City supporter I see every minute Ederson plays. But I don't see every minute that every other keeper plays and I doubt many posters here do either, so in many cases they are comparing Ederson, warts and all, to highlights of other keepers matches, so maybe an unfair comparison. I watched Liverpool's last mid week game and Alisson made some good saves but also a few howlers he got away with, and he does flap at crosses. Overall on that viewing I would be much more nervous with him in goal for us than with Ederson. We get to see a lot of good saves during highlights, but highlights don't always reflect the full picture.

The only keeper I would have swapped Ederson for at the start of the season was Steffen but then he had some screw ups to feck tgat theory up.

But the point is that having a second keeper with different strengths could allow us to play horses for courses. For example when we are against a team that we truly are scared shirtless of their striker we play the better shot stopper rather than the better all-rounder.

Maybe Bazuna is that or maybe Steffen with more games under his belt.

I wouldn't want to sell Ederson but I'd like to strengthen our GKing.
If we are scared shitless of a striker, you stick with your best keeper and depend on your defence and midfield to snuff out the dangers, which is exactly what we did to win the PL.

No, it says I’m not full of blue bias. It also says it’s unlikely you watched many of Liverpool’s games this season.

You’re remembering one bad game that Alisson had against City in the season prior to the one just ended.

Alisson made more saves, had more touches, had a higher save percentage, completed more passes and had the same amount of unsuccessful short passes and virtually the same pass completion percentage. Opta also rated him substantially higher

That doesn’t mean I want Ederson to leave, it means that he can improve.

By the way, for context, neither get anywhere near the top 30 PL all time save percentages on record (Cezh at 90% in 2005 holes the record), and to make the top 30, a save percentage of 80% is needed.

Ederson shared the golden glove, although he made 60 saves (20th highest) in 38 games, compared with 148 for the Leeds keeper.

There are a great many better shot stoppers in the PL, none (or perhaps only one) of whom could do the job City require of their keepers.
Leeds conceded 79. What those stats do not show and cannot show is if Ederson had faced those exact same 79 + 143 = 222 shots, would he have saved more than 143. Stats. cannot replace genuine "like for like" comparison, especially in football, they can only be used as a basis for speculation.

The facts absolutely disagree. See above. I watched every Liverpool game this season and he was very good, as he usually is. Which is why he has many more Brazil caps than Ederson.
He is a year older than Ederson and was capped for Brazil since 2015 when he was playing for Roma, Ederson wasn't capped until 2017 when he stepped up a level to play for City, it is aqually possible that Brazil stayed with the keeper who held the no. 1 shirt, that may be why he has more caps

I have only seen two posts from you, and both are highly critical of our players. This one is completely false and the other premature, in my opinion. If you are a genuine City fan, you are very impatient with your own.
Don't be too harsh on a new poster who has managed 106 posts since joining 2 days ago !!! Maybe requires the one season adjustment some of our players need.

See above, there’s zero point in your telling me about the Leeds keeper as I’m well aware. My point was to those that claim Ederson’s golden glove as proof he’s the best. He has far less to do.

I know you feel it’s your job to defend him as if you were his wife but I think you’ll find my posts have been entirely fair.

As for us only watching highlights of other keepers, do you think that’s what the Brazil manager does?

Ok I’m going to stop chatting with you now. There’s a line between support and bias and you obvious love Ederson and can’t see his faults. That’s fine but I’ve no interest of wasting more time chatting to you about it.

We weren't chatting, you were stating your opinion as if it was fact, regardless of any alternate opinions. I have supported City and our players for nearly 60 years and am perfectly capable of forming as broad and reasonable an opinion as any other poster here, more reasonable than many posting vastly exaggerated criticism of Ederson. You arrogantly claim what you consider "obvious" as fact and I "can't see his faults", I can, where did I post that he was perfect ? . How you waste your time is entirely your choice, maybe a little humility and avoiding ill informed amateur physchological analysis of other posters mindset would save you even more time.

I don’t like slagging off our own players but…

Man City Twitter account just posted a video of his top 10 saves of the season, they were all basic saves. I understand he has to be in the right position etc, but if u watch that video and compare it to any others from the premier league u will understand why a serious conversation needs to be had

Alisson is really good at one on ones, Ederson is better at every other thing...

If you want to talk shot stopping exclusively, Oblak is the high bar.
Ederson is better at crosses and playing the ball then Allison. Allison is better at shot stopping and one on one than Ederson.

Out of the two I'd keep Ederson.
