I don’t like slagging off our own players but…

Man City Twitter account just posted a video of his top 10 saves of the season, they were all basic saves. I understand he has to be in the right position etc, but if u watch that video and compare it to any others from the premier league u will understand why a serious conversation needs to be had
Great. I reckon we should sign Townsend and Peter Crouch as they once scored worldies against us, better than any goal Sterling or Jesus have scored.

Fucking unbelievable this forum sometimes.

Ederson is best keeper in the league. End of. Back to back golden gloves, back to back titles and the rest.

Shame Alisson didn't dig out more saves and help his team get more points or we could say he's the best.

They did well finding 10.

I've watched every one of our matches this season along with most of liverpool's.
Eddie's distribution is unmatched. Allison is more prone to making poor passes in comparison. Alison's shot stopping is marginally better. However Eddie is excellent at sniffing out danger, and is braver than his compatriot. When Eddie charges the opposition in his box he very often gets it right when compared to allison. Unfortunately, if it does not go well, it looks bad. As a team we play a high risk high reward game when compared to others.
He is an excellent keeper, and I loved joe hart when he was here, but Eddie is more of an all rounder. The only part of his game that requires some improvement in my opinion is penalties. Saving them not scoring them.

There's no way I buy Alisson is only marginally a better shot stopper. Alisson has overperformed his xGA by 8 this season, Liverpool's whole system is reliant on him being an elite one vs one specialist. If Ederson was playing for Liverpool, there wouldn't be a title race because Ederson is pretty poor in those situations.

Allison is better one on one. I think Eddy is better at everything else and a better fit for our team.

Is there a metric that shows the quality of shots faced? I feel (just from watching, no stat behind it that I'm aware) we have the ball so much that when the opponent does create against us, it's usually a high quality chance because it's so rare and the opponent needs to be perfect to execute it. That's why we see stats like 1/2/3 shot(s) on goal, 1/2 goals conceded, etc.

I'm just wondering if that metric is out there and what the numbers looks like. "Percentage of high quality (high xG) chances saved/stopped" and that stat relative to other to goalkeepers in Europe.

His distribution is obviously unmatched, but he doesnt actually do his job which is saving shots.

Might aswell bring Pirlo out of retirement and stick him in net

He’s absolutely fundamental to the way we play. The problem with the injuries to our defenders couldn’t have been easy for his confidence. A nice rest this summer will do him wonders, I’m sure.

Alisson is a way better keeper than Ederson. End of the story. Anyone who is watching football will admit it. Ederson's nervousness, lack of communication, easy mistakes, and inability to make sometimes simple saves has cost us the Champions League. And he has never looked like a clever, calm guy which is very important in terms of a world-class goalkeeper.
Absolute horseshit , blue you say ...

Being a blue doesn't mean you can't critique your own players. Ederson's shot stopping is a huge issue and it's shown itself in the CL virtually every season. We can never rely on him to bail us out.

He wasn’t critiquing, he literally listed out everything a keeper needs to do and says he is horrid at all of it, some of which makes no sense when put under scrutiny.

It’s one thing to argue he is not the most gifted shot stopper or sometimes makes mistakes he shouldn’t, but to try to make out that he is shit and is the reason for us losing the Champions League is laughable.

Eddie is our no1 goalkeeper fact .The sooner we all realise this then we can stop over analysing his performances , Eddie has one of the hardest positions in our team, most of his game is watching football played in front of him for long periods of time without being involved himself, and then is expected to be 100% alert for when a cock up is made by the defence and has to react in seconds, sometimes he can ,and sometime he cant make the save . Eddie is the best out there at what he does . Next season when he is putting laser accurate balls to the Viking just like he did Kun people wont be moaning then !

Would eddie make the same saves Courtois made tonight in the chumps league final. I honestly don't think he would.
Here's another question. Would Ederson have had to have made those saves if it was him in goal?

Maybe with Madrid, sure. But with us he plays a key role in not conceding chances. Did you not forget how many chances we had against Real Madrid at home because of Courtois's distribution?

Played a huge part in 4 title's in 5 years, wind your fucking necks in, nothing at all wrong with eddie

That's the thing.. he's great over a season but in cup competitions in a 1 on 1 breakaway he doesn't scare anyone.

Just look back at the goal given up to Vinicius.

If he can somehow get better and save those kinds of breakaways where someone gets in behind our defense.. we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Fingers crossed he can improve in that.

We can't be perfect. We concede fewer shots than Madrid but we'll inevitably give up chances because that's the CL. Eddie is a specialist but he has to be more well rounded. We have to be able to rely on him to bail us out from time to time.

Sure, but he prevents chances happening more than others still. If our finishing hadn't been so bad in the first leg Courtois would've been largely responsible for Madrid going out.
