According to something Mrs Vienna read, Littlewoods claim it was the only possible date that they could have arranged it for.

R. I. P. the 39 innocents that died on that horrible day. It’s another of those events that I will always remember where I was and what I was doing, when I heard the awful news.
 
I remember coming home from playing football on the park & seeing it unfold on TV. I was 11 the same age as the youngest victim, heartbreaking & lessons are still not learnt when you can’t mention it.

Me too I was a kid at the time. Seemed very unreal.
