What was he brought for if not to be THE guy to come on when your starting CDM is on a yellow (and probably more than a yellow) treading on the thinnest of ice in one of the biggest games of the season? I couldn't have been the only one feeling extremely uncomfortable about Rodri being on a booking with 60 minutes to go, and saying to myself I can't see Kalvin doing a job here for 60 minutes? It's absurd.

No,i thought we were in shit street to be honest.I wasnt convinced we could manage the game as we wanted with Rodri needing to be on best behaviour for much of the game......i also wasnt convinced Pep would use Philips to compensate for such, and so it proved.

If he isnt good enough for the above,he shouldnt be on the bench.

He will come good hopefully. Now that he's seen just how high the standards are to be a city player I'm sure he will raise his level and become an important player for us. Who knew say Ake from Bournemouth was going to be a crucial piece for us this season? Grealish from Villa? Alvarez from river plate? It's proven time and time again that most players we buy will at some point feel like they simply belong here and then they explode from there in terms of their contributions.

Remember Grealish last season when he said that he felt shocked and awed at sharing the locker room with stars like KDB, Sterling etc... Now that overawing feeling is gone and he believes he can be here and has stepped up.

Next season I feel will be the start of great things to come for Kalvin.

It's up to Philips then next season, i still have faith in him hopefully he will still start to click next season.

Pep and the rest saw something in him that indicates him being a good contributor to our team, and that's good enough for me.
Thought he was excellent in the last Euros.
Has hardly had any starts with us so I'll reserve judgement.

Agreed. The kind of football Pep and team coach is out of this world, look at the way we played yesterday. Very very few players can walk into that and crack on. It doesn’t happen overnight, coaching is coaching for a reason. We buy players and look to mould them and I bloody love it.
Agree with that.
I just think that a fully fit KP could operate a number of roles for City.we may yet be surprised by our great managers ideas as far as Phillips is concerned. The opening few seconds of the Bristol City away game, when City tore the home team apart early doors and Phillips had the shot from distance which went very close..similar to Rodri, this is a defensive midfielder who can shoot...

However ,I do think the players abilities could see him help us out in different posistions...With this manager ,anything is possible.
I hope he stays, for his footballing education cannot be bettered anywhere else, imo, all he needs is to continue to work hard and wait for his chance...

The overwhelming majority of players have taken a season to bed in and become accustomed to the playing system, though centre forwards seem to find it easier. However, Phillips has played so little football this year that it could be season 24-25 before he shows his true worth. That raises the question of whether the club will have the patience to wait. If he is to stay, I’d advise being last one out in summer and first one back for pre-season, and this time in prime shape.

It seems most on here have written him off, I hope Pep has more patience and gives him that second season to prove himself or not which most of our signings require. Obviously this season has been very difficult for Phillips with injuries having a major impact, but I think there is a player in there. He currently looks rusty and needs game time, whether he gets those minutes is another matter.

Not enough evidence to write this off on barely any football played.

This season is a write off for him, just let him learn and adapt over time.

I'll judge him next season if his struggle continues.
