44 Years Ago… Johnny Bond, Johnny Bond, Johnny Bond

He didn't fuck him off from the club he did fuck him off from the position he'd played so well in to shoe horn his lad in, team sprit that had taken us to a league semi, fa cup final and a more than comfortable league position was gone and the rest was history.(not that we have any)
Do you not think that the team spirit that took us to the league cup semi ( where we were cheated ) and the fa cup final in season 1980/ 81 was down to John Bond himself ?
We finished 12th under Bond after he took over mid season ,in 1980 and improved that finishing posistion by two places ( 10th) in his only full season( 1981/2) of managing us. In what way did he ruin our league posistion ?
The next season we had won 10 league games until he was sacked late Jan 1983, and after he left ..won only 3 games all season and went down !
Think a lot of folk have short memories where Bond is concerned.

As I recall at the time the issue was that many City fans thought Reid’s best position was centre half and Bond played his son there and moved Reid to midfield.
Yeah lots of fans disagree with managers views on players best posistion still to this day ; )

I was a big Nicky Reid fan at the time, he looked as tho he would d run through brick walls for us. Kevin Bond had to deal with a lot of stick but perhaps justified his selection by winning player of the season.at centre back .

Reid and Caton were two of my fav players at the time ,but neither were flawless in the critical posistion of centre back.iirc.

Still.. home grown players attract a lot of leeway, unless your name is Ian Bowyer , Paul Power or Richard Edghill !

Probably because I was a teenager at the time, I can’t believe that Bond was only 48 when he joined us.

My first City manager and one who brought us one mostly enjoyable year spread over two seasons. The way Bondy fixed Mal and Swales' mess so quickly was brilliant. He just needed backing BUT...as good as Kevin Bond was, that money would have been better deployed elsewhere, for a longer term replacement for Tommy Hutch or in midfield or up front.

To be honest I think it was a lot of young lads who enjoyed playing football and a few good older heads who pulled them together, I spoke to Tony Book about 30 years ago and he said him and malc had enquired about Gow and were quoted eye watering money, we started 81/82 very well think we were top at Christmas then he started bringing in well past it pros and we dropped like a stone. 82/83 away from home we were bloody awful and I went to em all don't think we won a game no wonder he was sacked team he left us with was dreadful.
