I must be honest, firing his social media team over that one tweet seems a bit weird. I get why Foden may be upset by it but I found the tweet to rather mild; we've seen much worse tweets from many others.


Either Foden has zero tolerance for this kind of stuff (fair enough if so) or there's more to this than we knew. It's possible this was the straw that broke the camel's back.


It'll be interesting to see if he moves onto a different social media team now or gives himself permanent control on the matter.

I reckon they are hiding behind the deal they would have agreed on whereby Foden approves TenToes to post for him. He obviously didn't walk off the pitch and in the dressing room have a conversation with someone about an Mbappe tweet, was some smart arse who works there who tweeted it.

I notice the social media firm did not publish proof of their claim the tweet was approved which would have been easy to do. I suspect that someone in Phil's comms/advice team is delegated to approve tweets and they took their eye off the ball for a second. It's a good lesson for Phil to learn for the future though.

Yeah, that tweet went out just minutes after the match ended. I can’t see how they were in touch with him so soon afterwards to ask him to ok it.

I will add that I thought there was little wrong with the content of the tweet compared to some you see posted by footballers.
