Except that isn't the frame where the ball leaves his foot. Foden's walloped that, so imagine that backwards, slower and towards Haaland. It absolutely is likely to get cut out. Not sure why so many are refusing to see this...

There was a pass on, Pep was going crazy on the sideline and Haaland's look said everything.

Foden needs to look up, something he did so well when he came into the team.

Pep's remonstrations from 50 yards away mean absolutely nowt. He can't see every possible angle at every possible second. he's human like the rest of us. Last week he clearly hooked him for not making it, yet this week didn't. I'm pretty certain they would have discussed it at half time and he'd have explained he didn't think the pass was on and you only have to presume he accepted it.

He had no genuine alternative on the bench with Grealish injured, a crazy game to bring on either Alvarez or Palmer and Mahrez is not the best helping out the FB's.

Still poor vision from Foden, he has stagnated a little in his development in the last 6 months for me.

The defender makes the attempt as Foden telegraphs the shot with a huge back lift tipping off the defender he’s about to shoot. He wouldn’t need to do that for a 4 yard square ball. Come on mate, you’ve played football (I presume), it’s an infinitely easier ball than beating one of the top keepers in the league from that angle.

The backlift lasts about half a second. I just don't agree that a pass would be any less easier to read as there are only two outcomes here, a pass or a shot. Both easy to read. The pass requires him to wrap his foot around it. Equally as readable. I get the Bournemouth one but I think people are intensely overreacting to this one due to frustration. And no one was arsed when Foden took that same shot against literally the best keeper in the league in Allison and scored. He's scored plenty from that angle.

I was on here slagging off the moaners last week after he didnt pass against Bournemouth. That one yesterday was a more obvious pass than last week when the ball pinged into his path. Not slagging the moaners this week. Not moaning either, but I fucking will be if he does it again ffs ;)

I thought the vast majority of our problems came from being pressed in midfield and leaving spaces up at the top. Both Bernie and Foden worked hard to get back there, but that gave us fewer options when going forward, especially as both were playing their first 90 minutes. Think it is a bit too easy to get distracted by the square ball and to judge overall performance on that.

Ah I had no idea that you spoke for the majority! Good to know. Even then the majority have been fed one narrative and will happily parrot what they hear a commentator or a pundit says as fact without questioning it. As a city fan you should know that.

I'm comfortable being in the minority on this occasion, mate. I've rewatched a few times and still don't see how in real time with the defender already committing himself as Foden shoots how a cut back doesn't get blocked or a pass forward into the space doesn't get intercepted by Pope.

End of the day I'm not gonna get hung up on it too much, we will never know one way or the other.
Phil needs to do more than we've seen so far if he's to become the player most of us hope he can be but there's a section of the forum already seemingly willing to go hard with their criticism of him and I'm not sure he deserves some of the grief he's been getting.

I think both Foden and Haaland will eventually click and both will benefit from each other.
