He did have a proper pre season. He would have still trained in Croatia with the 23s. Plus, the 1st team was only in America for a week. We're clutching if we're using that as an excuse.

Phil needs to get back to his 20/21 levels, his overall play is not too concerning but his decision making and finishing needs to be better, defensively he looked very lackadaisical againts Newcastle.

The pass looks even easier on moving pictures.To be fair, this picture is slightly misleading. His standing foot isn't planted at this point and Schar (or whoever it is) closes that space ever so slightly.
I agree that it's what he should have done but, at the same time, it still wasn't as simple as people are making out.

Foden is never going to be anywhere near Messi and we might not see anyone at Messi’s level in world football for another quarter of a century, maybe never again.whisper it quietly, but he’s not improving like we though he might. At 22 Messi was winning the Balon D’or
Messi is the greatest that’s ever played. You can’t compare Foden to him.
If Foden can just improve on his current levels iron out his deficiencies (shooting quality, shot selection, decision making on when to make the right pass) then that’s all we can ask for and we’ll have a cracking player on our hands.

That was a brilliant move that led to him getting the ball wide in the first minutes of the game. Pure City move, very slick. He's showing poor awareness of Erling at present. If I were Erling I would be getting slowly but surely pissed off. And there are signs that he is.

Needs to wake up and get back to making things happen.
Going backwards at this time, hopefully he does not become yet another over hyped English player.
He already is an overhyped English player.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s an excellent footballer, similar to the likes of Grealish, Mount and Maddison.
However, he’s not the second coming of Messi like some people make out. Nor is he England’s best midfielder/attacker.

Messi was a once in a lifetime player. I place him alongside Pelé as the best I've ever seen. Ridiculous to put that weight of expectation on this lad's shoulders.
