Going through a relatively lean patch. However these selfish moments, if indeed that’s what they are, can readily be coached out. He must be aware of the intense level of competition for starting places.

Foden is never going to be anywhere near Messi and we might not see anyone at Messi’s level in world football for another quarter of a century, maybe never again.

Messi is the greatest that’s ever played. You can’t compare Foden to him.

If Foden can just improve on his current levels iron out his deficiencies (shooting quality, shot selection, decision making on when to make the right pass) then that’s all we can ask for and we’ll have a cracking player on our hands.

I think he's had a bad year, but progression is not linear and he had 3 straight years of getting better by the week.

Now he needs to reset and start climbing that mountain to the top again because yesterday was his 100th premier league game, he should be grabing games by the scruff of the neck and controlling them soon.

He's getting alot of grief (understandable) because he's performed at such a high level these past couple of years. I can understand why Haaland hasn't received the square ball in these last 2 instances.

Firstly, In previous seasons there wouldn't be anyone quick enough to get to the ball (other than maybe Sterling). Hes also going have to react quickly to look up and pass it when especially last season, shooting at that opportunity was the desired outcome.

It's split decisions and getting out of a habit. It will come with a bit more adjustment.

People need to remember a few things:

1. He’s young and it’s normal to drop off once in a while.
2. He played out of position in many games last year.
3. He didn’t play a part in pre-season with the first team.

He’ll be fine in a few weeks.

He looks to me as though he is trying too hard to impress. He needs to relax a little bit when in goal scoring positions, to look for the easier option.

It will come and the time might be approaching for him to have a few games in midfield, trouble is who would make way for him

He's taking the exact same shot he's done numerous times, Liverpool away last season a prime example, start to worry when he's not getting in these positions, understanding of Haaland will come

Except that isn't the frame where the ball leaves his foot. Foden's walloped that, so imagine that backwards, slower and towards Haaland. It absolutely is likely to get cut out. Not sure why so many are refusing to see this...

The defender makes the attempt as Foden telegraphs the shot with a huge back lift tipping off the defender he’s about to shoot. He wouldn’t need to do that for a 4 yard square ball. Come on mate, you’ve played football (I presume), it’s an infinitely easier ball than beating one of the top keepers in the league from that angle.

Am I really seeing people on Foden's back because he's not doing what Messi was done at the same age?

Fucking hell. Messi was, and still is, a once in a lifetime player so to compare anybody to him is obscene.

Phil is absolutely brilliant, to be a starter and not look out of place in arguably the best team the league has ever seen is not easy.
