This season is when we should find out where Phil's best position is. I think Pep playing him in an unsettling 'Jack of all trades' roll is affecting his confidence and the only reason I think that is is because Phil is still quite young and academy graduate. Pep knows Foden loves City and thinks he'll quite happily play anywhere or sit on the bench. He will for now but the older he becomes the more he'll want to nail down a regular position and starting place, or he may become unsettled and want out.

He won't, but I'd like to see him withdraw from the next England squad to focus on his form for City. He hasn't really performed for England to be honest. He gets put out wide, but he's never going to do what Saka or Rashford do and try and dribble past players, he wants it when there are two or three around him so he can twist and turn and create his own space. But he doesn't get the ball in those situations because only the other City players would dare play that sort of pass. So he's either benched or doesn't do much and it's probably incredibly demoralising for him.

And despite Southgate being happy to try Saka at wing back or Walker as a CB despite them rarely doing so for their clubs, Foden's not trusted in the middle because he doesn't play there for his club.

No point going until he's made himself a clear CM candidate. Rice, Foden and Bellingham in CM is the best combination for England. Get Stones tucking into the DM role from CB with Walker covering as he would for City. But we aren't going to see that!
I can’t stand waistcoat and think he’s wasting some great talent with his negative style. I think Foden should be his main main playing as a number 8 or as a 10 just behind Kane. However, Foden is that talented he should be at a stage where he’s undroppable for England by now. Yes it would help him a lot with more progressive manager. It’s really up to Phil to step up though because there are plenty of games waistcoat has started him in and he’s been nowhere near his level. Even if it’s out wide. He’s a far better dribbler than Rashford will ever be as he showed for us on the left wing quite consistently a couple of seasons ago.

He already has played centrally though. In the champions league final for example.

Hopefully he starts regularly there this season
I’m talking about being a regular there. This paqueta signing just confirms that he won’t be.

Peps said it many times, Foden lacks temperament. He's always on go. The individual quality is clear but there's a certain maturity required.

Lack of patience leads to more turnovers, leading to more counters.

Peps already stated he hates end-to-end matches. Newcastle away 3-3

even his nice moments like when he spun Partey in community shield which led to Palmers goal, in the long run you'll see more it provides more problems than solutions.

Out wide, if he tries something audacious there's numbers behind the ball.

For me Foden should be in the middle. He has everything to be one of the best in that position. It sounds like a lot of excuses to me. We’ll never know if he is good enough in that position unless he’s played there.

He made a huge difference when he came on in the community shield and offered so much more than Alvarez in the middle

I don’t usually mention team selection until it’s been selected (if that makes sense) but I hope that Phil starts the game against Burnley. Just simply to shut people like Clown Carragher up once and for all.

~He’s one of our own, he’s one of our own, oh Phil Foden he’s one of our own.~

I agree I’d love to see it too but if he was ever gonna play in the middle it would have to be in KDB’s role so unless kdb’s legs are gone or when he leaves he will have to make do wide.
