Still believe Guardiola mishandled his development positionally, not so much in terms of game time. ‪Played him in a different role every season, whether it be LW, F9, RW, or 10. Comes out publicly on multiple occasions out to say he lacks certain traits to play in midfield, but then never actually played him there to “learn” those traits.. this year was the first and even then it was infrequent. Foden's got by on sheer talent alone ‬but he’s not specialised in any particular role.

Saka plays RW week in, week out. Bellingham B2B week in, week out. Don’t think either of them are better than Phil but both impact England games 10x more than Foden does because they’re just a lot more comfortable in their roles. Phil doesn’t look confident playing for England and seems to play within himself, it’s like he’s playing not to lose the ball when he should play more like Bellingham who plays with all the arrogance in the world.

I couldn't agree more, especially regarding Pep.

Pep mishandled Foden despite not loaning him out and making him an integral part of our treble winning, quadrule winning etc team at 23 ? Extraordinary.
To suggest that Pep mishandled Foden because Southgate doesn't know what position to play him is frankly ridiculous. I had to read that post twice and am still in disbelief. This is Pep Guardiola a man who has won everything and is the best manager in the world.

Too much Phil talk imo regarding that mediocre England performance.

Was Southgates tactics a big fault for why he played badly? Yes.

Did he play well regardless of the tactics? No, not really. But it wasn't awful, he just has to adapt to shit tactics, he is so use to Pep ball, he now has to learn to play in a system that:

1) Has a goalie who kicks it long every time, so there is no build up.
2) Has absolutely no interchange in play, everybody is static, no link up.
3) Play with a wide player on his side who passes back every time.

Coming off the back of Phil’s most recent season where he’s been lauded as the best in the league makes it even weirder that some still question his rise with us.
Make it stop, please.

What’s he said that’s wrong? We all know how great he is but tonight he was poor. I said before the game i think he’ll lose his place in the team by the knockout stage. That’s not Phil’s fault, he should be central and the left wing is probably the worst position he could be put in out of the 3/4 he could play.
Hope he does. I’m sick of him being made the scapegoat every time England play shit. Which is almost every game under this clueless wanker
