If he felt discomfort then he should be more careful with the ball and his position in case a counter came. We were leading at that time. It is different mindset for a midfielder vs a forward. If you are a forward just go ahead. If you are a midfielder, defensive responsibilities come first unless we need a goal desperately.Maybe he was unaware of Fodens discomfort from an earlier knock and thought he’d just given up the chase.
There’s definitely context to this passage of play when you watch it developing earlier on. There’s no doubts that Foden did get a knock on his ankle and was in a bit of discomfort.
It doesn’t look good when watching it only from the point Foden looks like he’s given up the chase but in this case I think it’s a bit harsh as I genuinely think the earlier knock played a part.
Thought he played well overall bar his big chance that was disappointing.
No not their fault. In our system player needs to defend second ball in their respective zones. Rodri Alvarez Nunes were responsible for the center zone and left half space at that moment. Walker and Doku for the wings. Right half space was Phil's responsibility and he put two men behind him before checking for the cover.because Rodri and Nunes overcommit and are in Red Star's box and Phil reacts to the counter quicker than Alvarez does.

It is wrong to point finger in this case.
I thought Phil should’ve taken one for the team & brought him down on the half way line. That’s the part which I think is poor defendingIt's not about pointing the finger. Maybe overcommit is the wrong word but both of them pushed forward at the same time and Phil was the quickest to respond to the counter.
I might have it wrong because I can't be arsed to fire up the game again and fast forward to the right moment but I'm pretty sure Foden is exactly where you'd expect him to be in possession.

No.
Nunez and Alvarez had the players they should marked more closed to their goal. Rodri was in the same area as them so he was okay to step forward.
Foden was the only player in rigiht half space and he lost two players without checking if the cover was ready. And the counter started from them.
It is not about the absolute position. It is the relative position. Off the ball, if you have not "pushed" all players in your space closer to their goal(or believe you have enough pace to cover even if you lose them) then you have to wait the cover to come before stepping ahead. On the ball you are okay to go anywhere.
Basic 101 for positional play.
I’m a bit confused. He should be careful not to get kicked on the ankle? Yeah sure, I imagine all players would prefer to be more careful and not be fouled but football isn’t an exact science is it.If he felt discomfort then he should be more careful with the ball and his position in case a counter came. I am sure Phil will learn his lesson...
