47 | Phil Foden - 2023/24

Both David Silva and KDB were 2 years older than Phil when we signed them, and both needed a bit of time to settle before they became considered best in the league. Iniesta's Pep era peak was a similar age to both of Silva's and KDBs, around 26ish. Very few players have a Messi like breakthrough, and even fewer when you're playing the CAM role that he is starting to look comfortable in. It's hard to be patient with him, but he's still probably 2 or 3 seasons, a bit of body mass, and a bit more learning away from his peak years with us.

Absolutely spot on. There’s been maybe only a small handful of players who were world class as a teenagers. 25-27, is the time the majority of top footballers come of age.

Paul Scholes is another good example. At 22 he’d played in 42 PL games and scored 15 league goals. He had played in 4 European matches and scored 1 goal. Foden has played in 130 league games and scored 35 league goals. Foden has played in 44 European matches and scored 10 goals. So he’s currently way ahead on appearances and goals.

Paul Scholes wouldn’t surpass Phil’s current numbers of league games and goals, until he was 26. He wouldn’t surpass Phil’s current European appearances or goal tally, until he was 27.

Hard to be patient, but we need to be. We need to be fully behind him. He could become one of, if not the best player, we’ve ever had. That’s how high his ceiling is.

Saw a segment about Foden in the Athletic about his numbers worth a read. Exciting season ahead✨

Tired of the media slating Foden because he cant establlish himself in our team , name any young english player who would be a regular in our side , there isnt any , they would all be rotated , Rice , Saka and others would suffer the same treatment.
Phil was amazing against Newcastle , i havent seen a better performance from him in that position , but Pep could drop him for the next game , because he selects teams to beat the opposition and that changes every week , any idiot pundits who thinks he has to play every week when he is among many world class players are just shit stirring and hoping that Phil fails.
He has been fighting for a first team place for 5 years and he will probably be involved in over 40 games for the best team in the world and i am sure he is quite happy playing a part at a football club that is now a winning machine, he could play for the Goons/Rags/Dipper and play every week guaranteed , but he will not win f*ck all.

Not arsed what the media say about Foden or opposition fans. If anyone can’t (most people can and opposing fans) see he is an incredible talent then that’s their issue. Can’t even be arsed debating it as it’s so clear how good he is.

His challenge now is to start performing to Saturdays level on a consistent basis like David Silva did. He rarely dropped below a 7/8 every game. Phil's problem is injuries. He seems to gather momentum then gets injured.

He is starting to fill out, he looks a lot stronger than he did, hopefully that will help the injury issues that have been a problem.

Here's hoping. He's got the lot just needs consistency now. He created seven chances on Saturday, one taken and Haaland messed about four up.

He looked what he is, top class, KDB's misfortune has given him a great chance to make that position his.

I've always wondered why Pep couldn't find a David Silva type role for Foden.

A midfield three of Rodri, Kovačić and Foden should be a possibility now.

This should be his "coming of age" season. He's 23. It's time for him to become world class.

Saturday was his best overall performance for City so far, hope he keeps it up, and doesn't get injured by the thugs in our game.
He gets next to fuck all by way of protection from the refs, maybe we need Rodri or Kova to start enforcing a tad more......let the cunts know we wont stand for it.
Fortunately Phil is a very bendy and tough litle fucker,a bit like Sterling in that respect.
