Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I didn't get why laporte and Dias weren't involved from the start today. Looks like one of them will be for the foreseeable if he's out for a while. It's a blow but we will cope.
We've got phenomenal strength in the central defence. Not worried at all when you've the likes of those two to come in. Thought Akanji looked good on Friday as well. He's had one or two iffy games recengtly but not against the form team in the league.
And he's making us forget it, so good is he on the left, but Nate Aké is essentially a central defender. He can go back to that now that Walker's fit again. Cancelo over on the left.

My biggest gripe with Stones is that he slows the play down as he rarely has the vision to see a good forward pass and most go either backward or sidewards.
As a defender he is class but offensively he`s not that good.
I accept he makes the odd great pass but they are very few and far between.

I really dislike his increasing habit of standing still on the ball for 10 seconds while waving his arms then passing it back to Ederson, shaking his head. He needs to be more proactive, he’s got the skillset after allI'm obviously in the minority here but I don't agree with this at all.

Laporte has a better passing range like you say, but Stones is very good in bringing the ball out of defence and then driving forward and laying it off to either Jack or Mahrez.I'm obviously in the minority here but I don't agree with this at all.

His completion rate has been excellent. In that regard, he's been the best CB indeed. The trade-off is that he seems to avoid progressive passes more than the other CBs, i.e., he's been a bit too safe at times, which slows our build up play down, and the ball comes back to him or Ederson or the other CB.

He holds on to the ball because it's a game of chicken with the opponent.
He lingers on the ball, they press forward to try to get it off him, that opens up the passing lane.
There's been a problem this season in that the midfield hasn't always been at its most effective (or teams have learned to block off all routes to Rodri) so there are fewer passes on from defence, which is what drives Stones to go back to Ederson to reset.

He needs 4 or 5 touches to find a City player and you can guarantee 75% of those touches will end up as sidewards or back passes.I'm obviously in the minority here but I don't agree with this at all.

Honestly surprised this transition to centre midfielder is somewhat working.Surely you mean centre midfielder? ;-)
I think Pep really likes it and we will see more of John there in the future.
