I love Pep but I can't for the life of me work out why he decided to play him on the right wing tonight.

He had a dip in form before the world cup but all players have them, there's no need to freeze him out completely or start messing around with his position.

Get him back playing the inverted LB role where he was brilliant for us last season, we clearly miss his creativity.
One thing we don’t see is what is going on in training. Pep seems annoyed this season with some players. He is talking about body language and even called out Philips for being out of shape. Who knows what Cancelo is doing in training. I found it surprising that given the fact he hardly played in the World Cup, that he hasn’t been selected until today. His performance was abysmal tonight along with a couple of others and if he wants to get back to playing regularly then he needs to pull his finger out and make sure he gets back to that form.

As it’s the Fa Cup on Sunday, I would play him in that to see if he can at least improve on today and find a bit of form.

Umm.. easy stuff to answer really.

Pep doesn't trust Cancelo defensively after his mental errors.

Teams more or less have figured out park the bus against City and catch Cancelo or Gomez on the break as Ederson isn't a great stopper.

I'd love to see our team fit an firing but lots of people have been in a funk.

Currently only Haaland, Grealish, Mahrez, Rico, Rodri, Ake, Stones and Rodri are fit in keeping us in it.

Foden, KDB and Cancelo have been an enigma.

What's going on here? The guy has gone from one of the best attacking FB in the world to utter gash in months.

He needs to sort his head out or be moved on, he is and was always a very complex character, no doubting his incredible natural talent but that's all to no avail if your mad as a box of frogs.

Absolutely bang out of form. Used to be his productivity higher up the pitch justified his inclusion, despite his defensive culpabilities, but lately he seems to have lost his productivity too.

Should be nowhere near the starting 11 for now.

Because he cannot defend and for half of last season this was masked by some great wing play, since then he is back to being the defensive liability he is, Ake or Laporte are better options at LB as Gomez does not seem to be trusted.

play him as a left back and we are weaker as a team (he has cost us at least 4 point this season defensively) play him as an attacking wing back and he may just do a job, also he is naturally a right sided player so made sense to try him there.

Personally he doesn't get in the starting 11 for me.

Looked the most likely to create something or score in the first half but the system wasn't working and it was right to take him off. I thought he was okay though.

Another one who looks rusty because he’s barely played football if late.

Agree with that

Come on guys :D

20 / 21, 21 / 22, 22 / 23 (Except maybe one month till World Cup, one month in May 2021) - he has been playing exceptional football as a LB..

What City has achieved during the last 3 seasons, would be impossible without Joao..

So, every player has his ups and downs, that's not a reason to forget - what he has done for the cub.

When he plays his football, Joao is best LB in PL without any doubt. Both defensively and offensively.

I'm sure he will come back.. He got overplayed due to Walker injury and that's the reason.. Sooner or later he will hit his best form..

I think you are being very generous to suggest he is (or has been) the best defensive LB in the PL.

Much stronger in attack, but not defensively great for me

He’s a hybrid player like Trent, can at times defend okay especially 1 v 1 but in a system gets lost floating about, I know it’s a shitshow all round as a fixture but against the dippers in the charity shield he left Salah in space at least 5 times in the first half alone and they targeted him again in the league, he needs to be played LB with a licence to roam but Pep doesn’t want to do that of late it seems.

Same as Trent, everybody says ‘make him a winger’ he’d be the same as Cancelo last night, I think he’d be better playing inside personally but you can’t drop others to accomodate it, said last night I think his race is run I’d like him to stay personally but if it means a true LB comes in with quality then I’m all for it as it’s becoming a bit of a problem for the team dynamic.

The myth of him being a winger playing at full back was well and truly laid to rest last night.
To be fair to him, he was dropped in to a very odd system in a position he's probably never played before on the back of barely playing any football the last few weeks.

I'm not saying he necessarily should be used as a winger but I think he could be very effective on the left wing where he can either cut in or go on the outside. I reckon he would be more adept at beating a full-back than Grealish which has been evident when he plays at left-back and goes forward.
