According to latest reports Sterling wants significant salary increase. He is currently on £300k a week.

We'd be mugs to do that as he wont get any more than that anywhere else.
Give it a rest ffs.

You reward players for their efforts and it protects your investment, we aren't going to let him walk for nothing.

This is where stats are utterly misleading...sterling pads his stats with an enourmous amount of taps ins that requre him simply to arrive at a certain position at the right time....we can thank pep for choaching him on that.

However, when it comes to chances he has to bury by not simply putting his toe on the ball...different story with raz.

He's lacking. Anyone unwilling to see it is fooling themselves and not looking at him objectively. Also selling our standards down the river to think its good enough.
You make 'arriving in the right place at the right time to be able to 'tap' the ball in the net' sound easy. It's anything but when you are regularly playing against Premiere League/international class defenders most games.

Sterling had that raw talent before Pep, but Pep has brought so much more to his game. His running off the ball is superb.

It's not always about sticking the ball in the net. You only have to look at the number of times he's pulled a defender or two out wide to create space in the middle to understand the contribution he makes to the team. (same with Mahrez and Jesus).

Yep the media who hate him stoke up the hatred further, even amongst his own fans.
If you were negotiating a fresh employment contract ..would you ask for less money.?

True of this season only really.

Gabriel Jesus has missed 68 big chances since he came to us in the league. Sterling has missed 84 since the start of his Premier League career.

In 5 years, Edin missed about 50.

One ‘knows where the net is’, one gets labelled a grafter, the other gets berated.
How many minutes per miss is it?

He is not asking that , we have a pay structure he is well away of , it will be the chance to earn more through targets / bonuses like everyone else , why do people believe that paper shite

Im not sure exactly what salary he is on but, if he is already on £300k/week, he's got some neck asking for more.
When he signed that contract, he was a 23 year old winger who had one prolific season in front of goal in the best team in English history, and had come off a disappointing world cup.

Since he signed that contract, he's scored more goals for us than anyone else, having his best goalscoring season last year with 31 despite the team's stuggles, become a nailed on starter and regular goalscorer for England and is widely regarded as one of the best players in his position in the world, despite what some on here would have you believe.

He's clearly a more valuable asset to us now than he was then, and with inflation to consider as well, he's absolutely right to ask for a modest pay increase. He'll get it too.

Sterling isn't the one asking for a new contract. It will be City who are asking him to sign a new deal before 2022 as we are not in the business of letting people go into the last year of their contract.

The latest figures I saw were £320k/week which is pretty much the same as his current deal, just a minimal bump to reflect his more senior standing in the squad. Like @balotelli's back pocket says, he's not 23 any more, he's one of the 5 captains and a key player for club and country.

The reports of the contract being put on hold are probably more to do with the fact Sterling (like KDB) doesn't have an agent at the moment and the club doesn't want to distract them going into such a vital part of the season.
