I was watching the game with a Liverpool fan, and even he was more positive about Sterling's performance than some on here.Grealish, Kane and Rashford didn't either.

He's a very good but very frustrating player
Fantastic movement, constant industry get's in great positions but his decision making is poor whether it's cutting back or picking the right cross or finish.
I and a lot of others keep expecting that bit to improve, and him to become one of the top 3 players in the league, start putting good early balls in or become a clinical finisher. But he never does for a consistent period.
He'll probably never will make that step up now given his age, but he's still a very good player.
His style did not suit our game this year at all though, patient passes around the box, which is probably why his form was bad.

It is like football's version of the F1 thread and Hamilton.

He did have a 2 year patch where he was performing amazing, proven now to be way above his actual level. Maybe the team setup suited him.
I have never seen a player to have such highs and to be as bad at times as he has been in the last 2 years in terms of being unable to basic things such as passing a ball with the right weight, finishing 1v1s and over running the ball. Things a player playing at this level being paid what he is should be able to do consistently and more the majority of the time.

How about Benjamin Mendy?He did have a 2 year patch where he was performing amazing, proven now to be way above his actual level. Maybe the team setup suited him.

He's scored 23, 25, 31 and 14 goals in his last four seasons. Even this season he contributed to more goals+assists than anyone in the team apart from Kev, and all that with almost no penalties. It's genuinely absurd to suggest that the level he achieved between 22 and 25, when he was one of the most productive players in the PL, is a 'patch'.

He's clearly suffering for form, but he's been world class for 3 seasons, one of our more dangerous players before that , and one of our more productive players for much of this season.Have you watched him this season. No-one will argue he's had a poor second half to this season. It's the suggestion that his recent form proves he was just punching above his weight for the last few years is the part I find absurd.
