I don't understand what's happened to him. Form comes and goes but his drop off has been hugely sad. To go from undroppable and one of the faces of our club, to completely anonymous most games.

David Silva leaving seemed to mark the beginning of the drop off in his form. There’s nobody who can deliver passes like Spanish Dave does in tight areas on the left which allow him to slide the likes of Sterling into space. Our attacks they are a lot more slower in build up which doesn’t play into his strengths of receiving the ball in space and being able to put the afterburners on like he did a couple of years ago.

If we can get £65-70 million it would be good bit of business as the only other option is he walks away for free.

It might be time to try him as central attacking mid. It seems like Pep has put too much emphasis on him being and off the ball runner & tap in merchant, to the detriment of his other attributes.
Remember some of his early performances for Liverpool against us when he was a nightmare dribbling down the side of our midfielders and drawing defenders out to him. Kept Coutinho out of AM slot at the time. De Bruyne held together with silly string and packing peanuts these days and as Gueye said Gundogan/Bernardo etc are too slow to be a real threat in that position. Might as well give it a go if we're just going to let his contract run down.

Actually, he's got another Silva now, and from what I've seen over the last few matches, that Silva is seriously starting to approach the level of his illustrious predecessor. I found myself thinking that while watching the Burnley performance. Kev himself was deferring to him at times.
I don't think it's a lack of players playing Raz into good positions. Really not.
We play nothing like we did when DS was strutting his stuff so as brilliant as Bernie has been its not anything like the same scenario.
My point, whilst flippant was really alluding to the way we set up in general back then benefitting Sterling's strengths.
It's all moot though because his actual footballing ability has gone backwards so much over the last 12 months trying to blame others for it is just making excuses.
Sooner we sell the better.

Wasn't taking a pop, you know.
And by the way, I agree with most of what you say. I think you're exaggerating the transition a bit. Merlin was around when we were starting to transition to what we do now.

is he actually going to score a goal for us ever again? at this point if he puts that round thing in the back of the net i'll be shocked. the runs are good. the movement is there. everything is there. but then he has to touch the damn football and things start to go wrong.

You know this is becoming a circlejerk when people are rushing in to criticise him tonight. He was fine - good even.

Got his assist, played a lovely ball to put Grealish through 1v1 which should have been another and disappointing he didn't get the goal but he kept going, kept busting a gut to get in positions to score and if he plays like that every week he'll be in the starting XI because eventually they'll start going in again. Just needed a bit of luck today like Walker got with his.

If you can’t score when your team is winning 3-0, and the other team is leaving so much space in the back, how the hell are you ever gonna score?

I agree, but if you don’t play well when your team is winning 3-0 then… Palmer gave a great pass and a good goal. Should he be a starter then? No manager cares what you do when the match is done(unless you are a youngster). If Sterling ever wanna become a starter again, he has to play well when it matters

Honestly should have had a hattrick in the short time he was on the pitch. However, he was doing the right things, made the right runs and offered a threat in behind. More unlucky tonight than the total shit we've seen from him recently.

But he did. He created a goal, put Jack through for an easy finish with a really nice ball over the top that the "no technical ability" brigade will ignore, and then got into loads of positions to score through his good movement.

That is playing well. The goals will come if he plays like that every week.
