Mateo has showed great technique so far. Well done. 8/10 score so far.
The problem is that as smooth as his skills are he does not do much in creating lines of pass to go forward. That is why when Palmer came the game changed. Because Palmer released Bernardo from RW into back line and Bernado's movement created more space and lines for others to move ahead. Sometimes doing less is better influence.
Another point: in the first half Rodri and Mateo were too close to each other. Rare thing to see in Pep's playbook. I am not sure if it is Pep new idea but a bit weird. It actually brought problems to Akanji because the ball was always circling too close to him (Saka nearby) without space to breath.
Unpopular opinion: foden and Bernardo suit LCM role better currently. But I think Mateo will be the candidate giving several weeks time.

He will be great when played deeper.
If he keeps looking for Haaland but from positions like defensive midfield he will have a higher chance as ppl will also have to mark the 2 attackers.
His future is next to Rodri, with a back 3 behind him.

I had no doubt he wouldn't be just because every game we played Chelsea he was one there players who stood out and couldn't get the ball of him! A perfect pep player and will play a lot of minutes this season
Was buzzing we got him. I also expect him to start scoring more goals than he did at Chelsea. Nobody can get ball from him.

Agree Gundo wasn't a big goal scorer before he came here last 2/3 season bagged a few..

Just getting round to watching the match. Not been able to till now. Biggest take-home from the first half. This guy. He looks so comfortable! Astonishing how quickly he’s slotted in. I think with Gvardiol we’ve actually strengthened in deep midfield/advanced defence.
Pep does love his defensive midfielders. Wonder why…
Arsenal have clearly strengthened too. They‘ve bought well, no question. Better than United, better than Liverpool, in my view, for the minute (we’ll see if Liverpool get Lavia — I think they probably will before the end of the window). Anybody who thinks Arsenal are just going to fade away is whistling in the dark.
