Good point. At the risk of alienating myself further, I'll say I hope Palmer goes on to reach a similar level to Rashford

I enjoy seeing what you have to say on the cesspool that is r/soccer btw
I’ll be disappointed if he only gets to a similar level to Rashford ;)

Wonder what will happen with Palmer. Will he stay this entire season?

I know Pep is praised for how he handled Foden, and rightly so, but there are even less opportunities arguably now with the competition for where he plays.

I believe I heard on the Totally Football show pod reference this and perhaps it was Daniel Storey (?) say they believe Pep may concede this time around to let Palmer go on loan somewhere, as he can't get much game time with us at the moment.

Not sure if he meant for this season. Seems so.

Baring Sterling off in some form in January I could see him going then to a Championship or even PL side, but I would worry about the way he would be handled.

Maybe to a club like Brentford, or Leeds, who play similarly enough, but maybe better to go to a good Championship side. Coventry perhaps?

Pep already said he is going nowhere

Looked great when he came on the other night. He's living all of our childhood dreams.

Hope he continues to improve and becomes an important part of the team.

One thing is certain this season. Now the RDAHMeedya realise how good he is the calls will come from every BT, Sky, BBC rooftop that he should go out on loan, just like Phil didn't go out on loan. Guardiola knows who will benefit from a loan move and who will benefit from training with some of the best players in the world. The third rate hacks of the RDAHmeedya will be calling for instant moves so that his goals will benefit the likes of Rochdale, Oldham, Willem II, Granada, or Troyes, but not City! Yer can read 'em like a three year old's first reading book.

Pat Nevin seems to like him

Pat watches a lot of Youth football because he covers Chelsea youth games on their channel.

He already knew all about Palmer before he came on and was buzzing just to see him get on the pitch.

He's not going to go anywhere. He'll get another dozen appearances and pick up a PL winners medal and maybe a few more.

Storey et al. are just repeating the Foden stories but caveating everything with "It's even harder now Foden's around".

They think he should go on loan because they thought Foden should go on loan, and for the same reasons.

When Palmer breaks through, they will say McAtee needs to leave on loan because it's even harder with Foden and Palmer.

etc. etc.

Until we've got 2/3 starters and a couple of squad players from the academy no one is going to assume the club are doing the right thing. Foden is still the only player to get into the first team from the academy since 2008.

Both made the right choice at the time. Pep's attitude to youth players has evolved since but Sancho left in 2017, only a year after Pep arrived. Back then chances for youth players were basically impossible to come by, Foden only made his first league start almost two years later. I think Brahim saw enough in his limited minutes to understand that he wasn't good enough for us yet and that he needed to go somewhere where gametime was easier to come across so he could improve. Not sure either deserve the vitriol you're giving them and I don't think either decision had anything to do with money either.
At the standards this club has set out, breaking into the team is going to be incredibly difficult for any youngster.

I think our definition of success needs to adjust with the ambitions of the club. Yes, the academy should be turning out talent for the first team. But for every player good enough to make it to the squad there will be 10+ who can have great careers a step or two below the top.

Palmer looks like he can make it. But even if he can’t, that doesn’t mean the academy failed.

Stop worrying...
Just enjoy.
