Their right back is 13 years older and there was one time that he dribbles past him and gains a good 7 yards distance from him but somehow he catch's up to him then he tries the ronaldo trick and slips

So he skinned a player with 13 years more experience than him, whilst also supplying an assist? Sounds like he had a good game eh?

I'm not sure Palmer is good enough to be retained another season, loaned or sold. He has bags of skill but he needs hunger desire and focus to succeed at City and i don't know if he has enough right now. He played really well for half an hour so he'll probably start again or get minutes. But his minutes on the pitch are limited and several games earlier in the season he hardly made any impression and that's why he's not played much. Cole needs to really bust a gut and make a difference when given the chance because his days could be numbered here.

I agree a loan may do him good (mind you how many young city players ever make it into our squad after being out on loan…) but talk of selling him is premature yet IMO.

I enjoy watching Cole, find him quite joyful and fun a bit like the star on the school team who can take everybody on.

He is such a talent, but he has had a difficult year with injury and rumours of a personal issue that the club has helped him to resolve. I hope that he stays and begins to claim the minutes that his talent deserves. It has to be earned though, which means head down, the utmost professionalism, and deliver whenever there is opportunity.

I can't think of any of our recent crop of youngsters coming back after being loaned out. But the club are faced with a decision on several players having had successful loans. McAtee, Tommy Doyle, Callum Doyle, Taylor Harwood Bellis have all done well but whether any of them will come back into the squad is anyone's guess. We also have Liam Delap but he'll most probably be sold.

Regarding Palmer. He's had a frustrating season but played well in first half yesterday. If he is retained he'll have to step up big time next season otherwise i think we'll sell him. I really hope he'll make it with us but i think the same of all our academy players breaking through.

I've said a few times, why does this lad not get the same support as other academy players?! Rico is worshipped, Phil is adored. Palmer is just a bit "meh". He's clearly quite a shy lad, but as one of our own I'd have expected a bit more support for him.

He was absolutely top draw yesterday. He's guilty of a few too many touches at times, but the way he played yesterday deserves a lot of praise. Azpilicueta is one of the top shithouses in the league. He had Sterling in his pocket in the CL final. He always has Phil's number too. He gets tight, he leaves a foot in, he nudges you he wrestles you and he makes sure you don't have any time on the ball. When Phil switched to wide left he shat himself whenever Azpilicueta got near him. Contrast that to Palmer who just saw him coming and left him for dead repeatedly. Got an assist and was the main threat in the game.

Work on his end product, and knowing when to take an extra touch or release the ball and he'll be one hell of a player. He's best staying with us in my opinion.

I think if you scroll back through this thread, you'll find no shortage of adoration for Palmer. There are numerous examples of posters calling him the next Phil and even some saying they want Mahrez sold to make way for him. Particularly last season and the start of this one, I think general consensus was very positive and hopes were high that this would be his breakout year and we'd have another academy star in the first 11 beside Phil.

In the end, it hasn't turned out that way. He did very well yesterday, but on the limited occasions he was given game time earlier in the season, he often struggled to keep up or really impact a game in any major way.

You talk about Rico being "worshipped" and I think that's mainly due to him a) taking his chance when he got it and b) proving to be the surprise package of the season, playing full back and midfield with amazing competence for a literal teenager. He's shown awesome personality, especially in a position and role where he often gets pushed around by grown men twice his size.

In contrast, Cole hasn't quite grabbed his chances this year and Pep hasn't shown as much faith in him as he has with Rico, which may also suggest he's not pulling his weight behind the scenes as well as he should or could be.

As I say, he was good yesterday. I think that's exactly what Pep would have hoped to see, and if he can put in another solid show or two before the season ends, maybe he sticks around and the breakout season comes next year. But he's clearly got talent and needs to be playing regular football. Can he do that as part of this City side? It's a really tough question to answer with such limited evidence to go on.

Rico hasn't been perfect though, he's made errors at times which is to be expected. But as a young lad and one of our own he gets away with it. Cole seems to get heavily criticised despite being one of us. Even with the ceremony yesterday it was an indifferent reception for Palmer in comparison to Rico and Phil.
