Almost flawless with the ball. Very rarely loses it and has an edge in the final third.

The Chelsea LB (who looked brilliant) gave him the runaround a bit defensively and you could see how Rico may struggle in some games with physically bigger players until he fills out but as the above poster said these are perfect games for him to learn. He will be a star for us I’m sure of that.

Superb experience.

Did some great stuff and never hides, but also caught out a tad defensively.

17 years old.....wow.
Absolutely. Every player of that age needs to develop and he showed that. Nevertheless, he looks set for a long career at the top level. It is fantastic to have such talented local lads coming through the ranks.

good talent and a learning experience. Struggled positionally but he's still very young and this was a good sign of his maturity already. If he doesn't make it at City, he'll make it at a very good club.

17 years old and playing against Chelsea brilliant, naive near the end of the match giving away the ball in a dangerous position but that comes with experience and tbf Cancelo does it alot anyway haha.

Was lovely to see Dias give him the usual verbal rollicking when he let his man go last night, but also give him a huge slap of support when he put the Chelsea player off to stop them scoring at the back post. Dias in the perfect player to develop someone like Rico because he will nurture them and make sure they grow on the pitch. Overall an excellent test for him and a brilliant performance.

I really can't make my mind up about this guy! Has gone from doing impressions of a mannequin that is magnetically drawn to whoever is playing right center back to completely running the right wing in the last game and a half he has played. He is definitely going to be interesting to follow over the next few years one way or the other!

I think that goal has given him a ton of confidence. He's clearly got the brain and the technique required (to become a top footballer), but it's his physicality that worries me. He does seem quite small - but that shouldn't matter if he plays in a possession based team like ours.

I'd say he's our most promising defender coming through the youth academy since Micah did all those years ago. I'll always give Tosin a shout too, a brilliant player who I reckon will become an England international before the '26 World Cup.

The physicality is only a worry for me if he would be told to defend alot or stay back in a back 3.

But if his role is to bomb forward or come into midfield, then rather than physicality (ahem Bernardo Silva), whats more important is aggression, size does not matter there.

Bernie, Kante monsters at being aggressive. Joshua Kimmich very successful as a box to box midfielder even though he isn't that big either.

Yep, I agree. I think he's shown a few signs of having that aggressive streak in him too. I do see him in a CDM role in the future (which works perfectly with Pep's inverted full-backs tactic).

I mean more from a defensive perspective he might not do as well coming up against someone like an Adama Traore or Allam Saint-Maximam. But even someone like Cancelo isn't incredibly physical (but still undoubtedly a brilliant player) and makes our first XI.

Excellent. That was his best game in a city shirt. Looked so comfortable in possession against a side that notoriously causes us issues with their press. Seeing him wanting the ball, facing his own goal with a scouser up his arse tells me this guy is the real deal. Actually thought he looked better when he moved inside than he did when he stayed wide.
