87 | James McAtee - 2024/25

I've said a few times in the past I don't quite see it with James, he just doesn't seem to influence the game enough when he plays. I'm not writing him off though, age helps and he is stronger now.

The other thing that seems missing from when he was in the youth teams is goal threat. He doesn't seem to be getting in the positions - or to be fair he possibly is but the ball isn't coming to him.

From criticising him, I'll try and be positive. I never saw the David Silva comparison ls, but I am starting to see some Bernardo in his play. His off the ball pressing and closing is excellent. He's hardworking and has a good touch. If he can carry on developing in that manner and can do a version of the job Bernardo does, then there'll be no complaints from me.

The time is now, injuries, loss of form etc, time to step up.

I could easily see him not getting any minutes in the next 3 games though. All will be tough games and I don’t think we’ll be comfortably winning in any of them. He didn’t trust him against Wolves or Southampton when we were struggling to break them down.

Well if that's the case Pep clearly doesn't trust or rate him.

He scored two late goals to win the game for England under 21s other week

He did yeah, I forgot about that, it was good to see. Doesn't change what I put about his threat playing for us though.

Might just be as simple as in the u21s he didn't come up against a team playing a back 8 like most do against us.

I'm sure he'll get some minutes, but it'll be telling if they are only from the bench.

The few healthy players we have will need resting even if just as a precaution, so he's bound to get some time.

He will be a solid premier league player, just not quite on our level, IMO. He was okay yesterday but slowed down our attacks too much. Only 9 months younger than Savinho and they are leagues apart in level. He needs a good loan to see what he can do. He is a great prospect, mind, I just don't see him making it with us. Still a very good player, though.
thought he made some good runs and his passing was spot on. That shot which was cleared off the line.... if only that went in. But the way he took it mid air and it was on target!!! u right tho - needs a loan move to a top club. I would shift him to Spain. More time on the ball to learn the passing game.
