87 | James McAtee - 2024/25

I didn’t think he was great, he showed some really good signs though. I think it’s incredibly harsh to judge a player who’s only playing once every 8 weeks or so.

We’re expecting man of the match performances, when he has no match sharpness or consistent game time.

He needs more minutes to develop properly and we shouldn’t be so harsh to judge our young players. A lot of city fans seem to want instant ready made players
Spot on this, and possibly very similar to what people were saying about Nunes. Fast forward a few weeks where Nunes has gained match sharpness, confidence etc and he’s become a revelation.

If McAtee doesn’t start Saturday I’d like to see him coming on for Gundo around the 60 minute mark (don’t think Gundo has the legs for much longer at the moment) as it will give McAtee a bit of time to have an influence on the game.

Whilst the volume of injuries are depressing it is quite exciting to see just how talented the young guns are - none of them looked out of place on Wednesday.

The thing with McAtee is I am not sure where Pep sees his position in the team. It’s confusing to know what his role is for the team when he gets the chance.

Really hoping James can force his way into contention more often.

He's the same age gvardiol. It's a little late to be intimidated. (Also I don't think that confidence is the issue).

Players are not robots, and just because he is the same age as Gvardiol doesn't mean anything with regards to aspects of his makeup.

What's your theory then , seeing as you have discounted the confidence aspect ?

Very true but he has to take his chance and it's looking like it's now or never, even more so with our injury issues.

If he is not going to make an impression in the next month, sadly he will be looking for a move, he is too great a talent to be sat on a bench.

The same happened with Palmer in his last season with us, he was given a few chances off the bench and occasional start but showed little.
Palmer didn't take his chance according to Pep, but look at him now, give McAttee a chance and see how he goes

Other than I don't think he's quite good enough for us I haven't got one. I'm not against him having a run of games though to see what we really have...it's not like foden or gundo are pulling up trees at the moment.

He hasn't had a long enough run in the team to establish whether he is good enough imo.

Exactly, there are senior members of the team who are not performing to their norm, so given a decent run, may help him.

Academic of course if Pep doesn't see that as the best way of bringing him through.

I hope he gets a chance and earns a place, as we are short of players, and a breakthrough for him would be great - imo.

You’ve made a good point with Nunes. The reason he’s started looking good is because he’s actually playing.

I don’t remember that quote. The last couple of games he was involved in - the community shield and the super cup? didn’t he get man of the match/ score. He was also class in the champions league
