87 | James McAtee - 2024/25

I didn’t think he was great, he showed some really good signs though. I think it’s incredibly harsh to judge a player who’s only playing once every 8 weeks or so.

We’re expecting man of the match performances, when he has no match sharpness or consistent game time.

He needs more minutes to develop properly and we shouldn’t be so harsh to judge our young players. A lot of city fans seem to want instant ready made players

Agreed - he also only ever plays with rotated sides or late on in games.

I'd love to see how he fits in from the start of a league game against a mid table side.

Too passive for me. Mind you Phil was a bit like that at first.
You feel from the spurs game that O’Reilly and Wright tried to express themselves more on the game.
Maybe Mac was following instructions to press and hold position
Pep and his team should know. But thought that about Palmer
Thing is, this lad has done the loan system so should be ready.
Had we have loaned Palmer he would be starting for us now
The prem is full of ex city youth. Palmer is the one that pee’s me off most as he was doing it for us .

I like him. He has excellent technique and good vision. He was a huge threat at EDS level, but he seems more steady now, not risk averse, just more professional. I like his ability to receive the ball with either foot and turn away and release with accuracy - a bit like a younger Gundo. I suspect he will do very well with more minutes as his confidence grows; at least, I hope so.
Agree with all of this.

Issue is the more minutes. It seems, at least, playing the Pep way, more minutes played equates to increased familiarity and therefore better performances.

However, it’ll always be difficult to get more minutes or the appropriate minutes in order to hone yourself in the system. Training is all well and good but an actual match introduces so many different variables and conditions that training can’t.

Doesn't play like he belongs in the first team. Clearly talented and Pep sees qualities in him but seems like a confidence issue.

If so, I am sure that Pep and coaching team will be trying to boost that.

I suspect it can be a bit daunting with the quality of players around him .

Hopefully steps up over the next couple of weeks.

I don’t think he looked out of place last year in a poor Sheffield United side so should be able to perform better in a City side with better players and more possession of the ball. This is his chance so really needs to make a case for minutes.

Very true but he has to take his chance and it's looking like it's now or never, even more so with our injury issues.

If he is not going to make an impression in the next month, sadly he will be looking for a move, he is too great a talent to be sat on a bench.

The same happened with Palmer in his last season with us, he was given a few chances off the bench and occasional start but showed little.
