A proper discussion...what made you support city?

Been on this rollercoaster since 1955. Brought up in what was a predominently Irish catholic community in Old Trafford, which was full of 'reds'. Problem was, I (and 3 mates) were protestants - and thats how (generally) it was decided in those days. In other words, 'faith' decided who one supported and which promising kids got trials with which clubs.

Thank god things have changed .... but my 'faith' hasn't!

I got sick of hearing about George Best all the damned time.

Most kids at school were Red - I went the other way! (It was some years ago)

my old man,was brought up in the back streets of solfud which overlooked the docks and the swamp.the year was 1937,he was only a kid ,his old man didnt give a shite about football.so my old man was left to his own devices.the champions of england in this year was?manchester city.dad became a blue, walking to mecca that was mosside every wk,so dad was a blue, would i change it?would i fuk.PETER DOHERTY the greatest ever.bob paisley once said.he was the greatest.cant argue with the great man.

Like others on here I have a blue family, so I didn't have to choose. My father's father's side of the family is Mancunian to the point of having a Mancunian surname.

about 6 years old, not really into football, then two of my mates ended up convincing me to suport city.....the conversation went along the lines of..."you can be a city fan if you cant decide"...fair enough. back then 90% of my mates were city fans.....now all but me an another lad have become glory hunting rags....while we stayed faithful.

my dad brought me into it! my mums side of the family were bolton fans and my dads side were city fans so it was one of them two! thank god my dad steered me in the right direction!

supported red side of mersyside till i was 12 started to support city 06-07 season towards end of that and just LOVED the club, the fans, the players, everyone they ALL cared about 1 thing CITY and as that is no where near the case anymore its sad to see we are not the same club anymore, my uncle supported city so all my life i had a soft spot for them then when the glory hunters started to become liverpool fans i wanted out i didnt want to be classed as one of them im a passionate football fan and i wasnt like the rest that were becoming fans, they wernt the same club either after their fa cup win they had loads of fans from nowere, and sadly the same is happening here and i dont want to but if this club goes the wrong way my allegiance wil have to change again to a passionate club i.e West ham

may manchester city we all knew and loved rest in peace 01/09/08

but does noone else agree that this club has changed for the worse as wel as the better? people like Joey barton yeah he was a cock but he cared about city and money cant buy that passion yeah we could buy somone like him back but its not the same as when we had no money before

Father was in the Military and was stationed in the 80's down in southern England with my mom for about 5 years (In Basingstoke I think?). I was born there but we moved back across the pond when I was around 3. Anyhow, he fell in love with the game, and even though he was a neutral fan footy was ALWAYS around when I was growing up. When FSC launched it was like Christmas for him. I don't really have a cool story about it but I just always loved City from as early as I can remember. Never took a liking to anyone else.

I've been trying to invent a time machine in order to go back in time and convince him to never join the Armed Forces, but I've been unsuccessful as of yet.
