The thing that bothers me a little is that he's 22 and yet to get a full international cap. I'd like to think that we'd be signing young players with plenty of caps already who are more likely to progress into top, top players (think Kompany and Nige). Adam Johnson has a bit of a jermaine jenas/tom huddlestone feel about it, althogh admittedly I haven't seen much of him and will refrain from passing any real judgement for a while

No - Johnson is an out and out wide player - more in the mould of a right footed Downing

I wasn't comparing them in their position or the way they play, but the way how they've been bigged up in the past only to turn out to be fairly average

Oh I detect sarcasm. Some people eh, never happy. The amount of money this club has spent buying players over the last 18 months. Some people just want us to have the attitude 'lets just buy him'.

Perhaps, some people would prefer us to but a little tougher in our negotiations. This to me is what we are doing. We after all are in the strongest position.

City have been told Chelsea have also agreed a £5m deal with Boro, allowing him to remain at club until the summer.

However, Johnson was told of our interest and is keen to discover what we have to offer.

The lad is in a dream situation - a club that pays very well and a club that pays very, very well.

It's no more than 50-50 at present, but we have officials seeing the lad later today.

At least another two signings in before deadline.
