Struggling to understand this! We damn sure struggled to change a game when we were struggling WITH AJ who always seemed to struggle to beat his man and struggled to catch his man tracking back.

My guess is that Mancini sees Johnson as more of a goal getter then a winger. He's effective in and around the box but not very good at getting the ball from your box to the other in a break situation or creating a chance for someone else via a cross. I suspect that he is making a strategic decision to getting in a whippet for speed and rely on our other strikers for the goal threat. Rather than bringing on Johnson, bring on Balotelli or Dzeko, when you need a goal. Or a CM to push Yaya forward, or Sinclair to add speed.

Johnson imo was competing with Nasri, Silva and Balotelli and they were all better. Sinclair is not like any of them so offers something new.

And I think Jonhson will be a bargain at 15m if they play him as much like a forward as possible. He'll score a bundle but he'd score more if he had a decent through-ball specialist behind him. His runs are fantastic. Forget lack-a-track-a-back. Hello Run-n-score-for-fun.

Wish him all the best, hope it frees up some funds for a purchase now

Sets the ball rolling IMO it was always a case of clearing out the decks before re stocking.

Sinclair will hopefully be signed at a reasonable price and Swansea now don't try to fleece us which is likely.

scored unimportant goals and no work ethic went out and got wasted to much good luck to him though his a boyhood sunderland fan

I think Johnson was very frustrating to watch last season. Before that he was good. Wish him all the best. And clearly so does the club....unlike with Adebayor and co.

So with Johnno and Weiss gone, we have no natural wingers at all until Sinclair arrives. :)

15 million. thank you sunderland and good luck AJ. sinclair isnt the answer though. just a sideways step

If he signs then at least give the lad a chance to show what he can or cannot.
We`ve given Johnson too long and he`s still not good enough for our starting eleven.

fair enough. we should go for pablo hernandez isntead though imo

We struggled when he was here mate, how many games did he change for us ?

He changed a few games for us Newcastle and Blackburn off top of my head also got a late equaliser at Sunderland.

Should ask for 20 mill everybody else ups it for us! Still think bobby has got something planned ?

If we are counting AJ as 15mil then Sinclair will be 8mil, can't have it both ways - you either include add-ons or don't.

Out of interest, has anyone else noticed that SSN have changed fee for Rodwell from 15mil down to 12mil - someone from City must have had a word...
15 and 6 then not 8

Telegraph:

Sunderland cannot afford to cover Johnson’s £80,000-a-week wages, but the player was willing to take a pay cut of about £30,000 a week as long as he was compensated with a lump sum from City to do so.

Not again! Can we stop paying these fringe players so much, I hope we don't bring Sinclair in on wages like that.

You look at United getting Kagawa for £14million and Dortmund getting Reus for £12million and you have to think, why can't we get a player of this quality for a fee like that with the money we've received from Johnson's departure.

We've made a profit on a player we actually bought, a decent one, this should be enough for a celebration in itself.

Not if you happen to think the player is a quality one. I'm gutted.
