Adam Johnson's Borrowed Time

Sunderland would have to offer £10million+++ along with McClean but I doubt we'd want McClean, he's a dime a dozen "pretty good" mid-table young player, ala Barry Bannan and Graham Dorrans. We should be looking at £15million MINIMUM for Johnson, he's nothing special but most clubs don't realise that, and with him being a winger and England international, the standard has been set - £20million for mediocrity personified, Stewart Downing.

Ive watched the Black Cats a couple of times under ONeill(I live in York) and Maclean is a talent. Certainly better than Downing and has more potential than Johnson. However, i agree we need a top quality wide man in the summer.

I agree AJ seems very disinterested
yet

hes a left footed winger who is playing in a stupid formation 4-2-3-1 which has proved to be anti-crosses [even though we have a 6'3 and 6'5 striker] and has him on the right of the forward 3.

Unless 4-2-3-1 is to be ditched this summer AJ should leave if for nothing other than enjoying the game.

but then again,
he signed up for the club and as a professional getting paid a wedge should listen to the coaches, learn tactics and get his head 100% concentrating on the game as a whole rather than just his self-indulgence

Johnson can cross well, and my only complaint is Mancini keeps playing him on the right. For a left footer, that doesn't make sense to me.
Many (I won't say most only because I'm not sure) wingers in Europe play on their opposite sides. Look at Ribery, Robben, Navas, Pedro, etc, etc.

He can still cross with his left foot on the right wing. It's called an inswinging cross and here's an example of it against Barcelona today:

SKIP to 7:50. Look at how good of a cross that is. AJ should try that more.

And to be honest, I'm not even sure Johnson is a good crosser.

Don't know about anybody else but i want to see him on the left when Dzeko is playing.

We need two top class wingers in the summer,AJ is far too inconsistent and lightweight.

Two pacey widemen would give us the alternative of a 442 and allowing Yaya and Silva to orchestrate the team. The system would also get the best from Dzeko.

how many of you having another pop at another City player actually watch him live on the pitch. I will hazard a guess that the most vitriolic moaners watch him , on a piss poor internet feed on an iphone.

Only spurs from the top 4 sling blind cross after blind cross into the area. They play percentage football.

The rest including City play a more patient and continental style working openings etc the opposition cannot score when you keep the ball

442 hasn't done the Rags much harm this season......

You want a central midfield of Yaya and silva, lot of tackling and closing down there, neither could tackle a paper bag. fantastic creative player they are.

do the rags really play 442
