Manchester City believe they are close to brokering a compromise deal that will see Emmanuel Adebayor leave for Tottenham at last.
City are ready to subsidise the Togo striker’s wages at White Hart Lane for the next two seasons, and will hand him a significant chunk of the £5million fee as a pay-off.
It means the champions will have to write off almost all the £25m they paid Arsenal for Adebayor three years ago.
City agreed to sell him in a cut-price deal after he spent last season on loan at Spurs.
But that move was blocked when Adebayor demanded his share of the fee because he would have to take a cut on the £170,000-a-week wages he earns at the Etihad.
Now City will help Spurs pay his salary and will also hand Adebayor most of the fee.
Boss Roberto Mancini urged the striker not to reject the deal, saying: “I am sorry for Adebayor because he has no chance at City.
“He has absolutely no chance of playing this season here.
"So, for us, it’s important he can find a good solution.”

Not a chance we should do this, I would rather let him rot in the reserves and see out his contract that sell him to spurs on that deal. Adebayor is a 15 - 20 goal premier league striker and is also capable on a good number of assists a season. Regardless of his wage any striker capable of performing how he does is worth a minimum 15 million especially when matt jarvis and steven fletcher are getting valued at 10 million. If we sell him for 5 million then that shitty stingy club spurs should pay him off as they will be saving 10 million of his true valuation.Kompany is King said:LoveCity said:Looks like we've caved in and reached a compromise. Hope this is the real deal - Adebayor. We were always going to take a hit. Take it, move on.
