I'm amazed at the hatred towards Adebayor that I've witnessed on this thread.
Fact is that when he signed for Manchester City both parties entered into a binding contract and he's exercised nothing except his moral, ethical and contractual rights under the laws of England & Wales.
I'm as frustrated as the next blue re all the faffing about but he simply doesn't deserve to be badmouthed for expecting us to honour a contract that we persuaded him to sign . .
Now that contract may have ultimately proven to be short-sighted on the part of our club but we entered into it with the advice of the clubs solicitors, financiers and football experts . . we weren't forced into it, we used what we thought to be all due diligence and we fucked up.
Our stupidity shouldn't be cause to aim misguided and ignorant hate at a guy who we all cheered not so long ago - that goal against the Arse and the long run to celebrate in front of their furious fans . . for a moment he was perfect wasn't he but now we want rid he's a twat all of a sudden?
No, he's the same guy on the same contract that we put in front of him - so who's at fault eh?
Stepping stone that went wrong. Adebayor must take some blame too. Difficult as a fan to know, but I get the impression that he didn't want to know when he realised that Tevez was No. 1

Marvin, I agree with your line as it was a necessarily difficult transition and we had to take ourselves up a notch to get the attention that would ultimately bring true world stars to our club. That involved a number of 'stepping stones' as you describe them but that wasn't his fault because we put the contract in front of him and asked him to please sign it.
I know that it's difficult for all involved but it's a situation that we laid the ground for and I was just getting pissed off at empty heads spouting about him in such childishly derogative terms (you can tell it's the school holidays eh?) when the blokes done nothing other than fulfil his obligations and asked nothing more than that we fulfil ours.

Mark Hughes'. Just like RSC. He desperately wanted this player and as a consequence the club paid way over the odds and offered him a long term contract.
He was perfect for a handful of games (up until we played Arsenal oddly enough!) The guy is a total mercenary. Would love to know what he has cost us per goal.
On the other hand, probably best to never know..

I think, to coin Marvin's phrase, that hughes was a stepping stone as much as a number of players were. Let's face it, he wasn't ever going to be good enough to manage us under the new owners because he didn't have the experience, the kudos or the basic intelligence to perform at that level.

I agree. Hughes was out of his depth. A decent manager at making the best of limited resources but no idea on how to build a great team at all.
It's just a shame he has managed to leave us with a legacy of financial problems in return for bugger all success. Still, at least the current owners saw the light and turfed him and the taffia out and appointed one of the best managers in the world in his place. We are sooooo lucky!

Re: Adebayor

Hurts me this thread.

I remember uttering the words, "he's better than Drogba", after his first few games for us, he was an absolute beast.

Downhill at a rapid rate from then on.

He'll be gone soon enough, thank fuck, even levy isn't that stupid that he can't see 5mil for him is an absolute steal.

Hope you are right there. Just a bit worried Ade may be pushing his luck with his transfer demands. Levy is a hard nut to crack and may just get fed up with this crap and wake up to the fact he would be signing a total mercenary.
Can't wait for him to go so we can do some business...
