Air Shows 2014

Was discussing air shows with the mrs a few days ago and she was a regular at most round the country.However..........living where we do,right under the Mach loop there's one every day. Standing at the window yesterday and an F15 looked like it was coming through the lounge, vortices and rivets everywhere, it was brilliant. When the Yanks, the Saudis and the RAF start playing together, it's brilliant.

Do they publicise when these take place?

I've long fancied putting my camera skills to the test trying to photograph these but wasn't sure if it's an everyday event?

I always loved the one at Folkestone that's back this year after a long break. It's not that you see anything especially different or unusual to any other airshow, it's that it takes place along the Leas clifftop, so the aircraft fly past at not much more than eye level over the sea. And that's amazing. The devious bastards some years ago flew a Harrier below cliff top level and then popped up vertically in front of everyone trying to figure out where the hell that racket had come from!
Measles at Folkestone? Brilliant!

im going to fairford this year, been most years for last 10 years its a fantastic show if a little expensive, taking my little boy for the first time this year cant wait. seeing the f35 for the first time should be good. Waddington is also a decent and a lot cheaper than RIAT just not as well organised for getting in and out.

Where you from bud?

Does the entrance fee include car parking?

West Yorkshire. Yeah price includes parking. looking at around £40 for fairford and about £24 for waddington. Not bad when you consider what you pay to go to a footy match or a gig these days.

Never actually been but the in aws have a caravan in Towyn a short distance up the road from Rhyl and was looking forward to watching the airshow last year but it was rubbish. Alright I wasnt actually "there" but for flying aircraft something rumbled over now and again like the Sea Rescue helicopter!

Would really like to go to a proper one!

They don't come through at weekends or bank holidays, this is a touristy area and I think they try to respect the rest days, although most people here don't mind........There are plenty of ridges where guys set up their cameras, some of the photos are stunning and I'm sure the pilots play to the crowd.I think for security they wont publisice just a question of climbing and waiting. They come through most days, some more than others and some guys have the radios and listen to the pilots. The Yanks fly up from their bases in the south whilst the Saudis usually come through when their planes are over here for servicing, upgrading etc etc

Fancy a trip to the Mach loop myself. Some brilliant pics on this link, don't know how long the guy was there to get them. The pic looking down on the Merlin flying over the lay-by shows how low they fly through.
TRB, can you tell if any of the pics are taken near you?
