Try again….I failed.
Try again….I failed.
Don't look at it that way. How long did you go? 6 weeks is pretty good. Just do another 6 weeks from today.I failed.
I love having an alcohol-free Xmas. It's a good feeling. I'm looking forward to my usual cans of Guinness 0.0.This is definitely Hunting Season for those of us who no longer drink alcohol. Everyone and their dog and cat seem to want to get pissed. Back in the day it was good to hide in plain sight being a top up 24/7 drunk.
Thankfully with the help of the 12 step program and the fellowship (not everyone's cup of tea) I've got a dozen years of Sobriety now.
Attending Football matches in the early days wasn't that difficult for me. Although it meant having to curtail the time spent in the pre match boozers as if you keep going into the barbers shop you will end up getting a haircut.
Anyone struggling with the demon drink should be aware that they are NOT ALONE.
Have a safe and sober Christmas and a productive 2026.
Just over 3 years of sobriety for me after 55 years of caning it, best move ever, never too late …..I love having an alcohol-free Xmas. It's a good feeling. I'm looking forward to my usual cans of Guinness 0.0.
Too much alcohol during xmas causes people depression and anxiety without them even knowing what's caused it.
It's the ALCOHOL. It's ok when you're drinking it, but the next days are shite.
No alcohol passes through my body any more. Lots of THC, though ;)Just over 3 years of sobriety for me after 55 years of caning it, best move ever, never too late …..
As well as being an alcoholic I’m also OCD, so have to keep away of everythingNo alcohol passes through my body any more. Lots of THC, though ;)
That's probably why you became an alcoholic. Like me. It was always on the cards. I'm not OCD but I've suffered with bad anxiety in the past. I was agoraphobic for a long time. I wouldn't go out of the house without a good drink first ....and it was the alcohol making it worse. I'm so glad I'm out of that vicious circle ...although, now I'm stuck in the house with long COVID. haha. I must have been a right cnut in a past life.As well as being an alcoholic I’m also OCD, so have to keep away of everything

Bump……
For all us alcoholics out there……say strongbow
Over 3 years sober, don’t miss it at all, except never go to the pub anymore…..full of dickheads anyhow ;-)Worst sponsor ever:-)
It gets easier but never gets easy ……..Recently did 6 weeks completely sober, which included 5 days in Spain when I ate out every night, no wine, and walked at least 8 miles a day.
Boredom is a big one for me, the winter days are a drag in the UK.
I fell off the wagon a week ago and have had a few Guinness, which ive enjoyed.
Determined to get back on track though.
I retired a year ago, which wasn't entirely planned, so I need to start making plans in the new year.
A set of golf clubs and a bit of fishing gear could be on the horizon, and maybe sell a couple of bikes and buy one that I can actually use, instead of the garage queens I own.
Merry Christmas all, and good luck with your struggles x
