Who told you that Mendy will go for that kinda money? I think that's almost impossible. The word is Mendy's valued at between 50 - 60 million euros by Monaco. And that's conservatively. If we can get Sandro for a bit more than 10 million more i'd do it in a heartbeat. Mendy might become a world class left back but right now he's a lot of raw potential. Sandro is already a world class left back.

Yeah, I think that's almost impossible. Monaco think he's currently the best left back in Europe in his age group. They fancy they can get an auction going as so many clubs are in desperate need of a left back/wing back. Easily see his fee ending up close to 60 million euros.

I think if we really wanted him we could get him.

I dont think there was a real interest from us when he signed for Juve.

Apparently in summer 2015 we had an agreement he'd join for free in 2016, but Juve came in at the last minute and offered him a transfer in 2015.

This is the balance we effectively have to strike in our transfer window.

If Walker, Sanchez and Sandro come in, then we have already secured a massive, immediate increase in the quality of the side, and then we can afford to maybe push the boat out on a few long term projects who are currently raw potential and very young.

It has to be said though, as the window gets closer, the links with young kids seems to be diminishing and the links with 26/27/28 year olds seem to be becoming more concrete.

Probably because there is enough young kids in the squad or in the future already. I would consider Jesus, Sane, Sterling, and Aleix as young kids. Then on loan we will have Unal and Roberts coming in (to impress on tour, Unal maybe not but eventually), and then a few kids from youth academy. I think the squad needs some 25-27 experience world class players now.

Especially if Yaya leaves, and some of the more aging players, the squad could be TOO young (which sounds weird to say), makes sense to bring experience in.
