I understand why you might think this way but I disagree. Some of the most ardent Republicans I know are Mexican people who've made a success of their lives having moved here. Yes the Party elite , Graham, McConnell, and their ilk are vile bogoted POS's but at the grass rt level I see a way more varied groupAs our Republicans. Their identity politics are white and male. Women like AOC are constantly portrayed as ‘not American’ or hostile to ‘America’ or working against the interests of ‘Americans’. They are denied the right to identify as ‘Americans’ or speak for ‘America’. A white, male Steelworker is ‘American’. A Latino or black waitress in Los Angeles is never held up as the ideal of an ‘American’. Their struggle to be seen or accepted as equally ‘American’ is met with hostility and resentment.
Republicans entire strategy is identity politics and the politics of resentment. It’s emotion based and is fuelled by fear.
