Not getting Sanchez would be a big blow seeing as City were seemingly so confident about it. I never actually thought we would get him this summer but my mind was eased in the assumption we'd have somebody else of a similar standard lined up, i'm no longer that confident we do have another option, who is available?
The attack needs that player like Sanchez who can grip the game by the neck when we have our backs against the walls and produce something from nothing when we can't break teams down.
Aguero used to do it but in the role he plays now as the focal point he can't really do it, doesn't have the license to drift where he wants and is therefore rather easily marked out the game if we're not completely dominant. Sterling isn't one for doing it, he's too safe and doesn't seem to have the confidence to do it if he doesn't start the game on fire. Sane can but seems to blow hot and cold in that regard and sometimes appears to not fancy it and is content to just play the safe option like Sterling. Jesus,Bernardo and Silva are all different types of players, more enablers, more likely to be the start or end of a bit of magic than the ones to do it themselves. KDB is the closest thing we've got to it but we need more. Sanchez fits the bill perfectly, Neymar does too but there's no way he's leaving and if he did, could we match PSG after what we've already spent? Dembele is a talent but he's a bit different and seems to want Barca.
If it's not happening we need to get a move on and draw a line under it, we can't go into the season with what we have at present, Aguero,Jesus,Sane and Sterling is not enough, if just one of them gets injured/banned/fatigued/out of form, suddenly we become predictable and have no options on the bench. Others can fill but it's not ideal and it remains to be seen if Roberts will prove himself good enough to be kept around
