Completely agree about seeing how the season starts and the timing of the bid. I think we learned from the Sterling saga that it's best if these things are conducted over a shorter time frame, if not, it can play out in the media for months. We didn't have much say over that as Rodgers and Sterling's agent set the agenda but Wenger's smarter and is aware this is a bit more delicate, with the player's contractual situation. I think we're coming to the end game though.

Nice summary. I genuinely believe any whispers in the press over the last few days from City that we're happy to wait is to spook Arsenal.

I guess that Arsenal expected Alexis to move to PSG or Bayern and when he didn't they hoped they could get ridiculous money from City. I'd say they hoped for a very public rejection of bids from us and at the right price (something like £70m) could say the players head is turned and we've no choice to sell but we've got a huge fee. Now we seem to be the only buyer and they can either hold onto an unhappy player (who leaves for free at the end of the season) or take £50m.

From Arsenals point of view, if he doesn't start the first couple of games the fans will want him gone anyway, which makes it easier for the club to save face. However, I would suggest that if your expecting him to put everything on the line, then it's you who is talking bollocks. The closer he comes to the end of his contract, he will be less inclined to put his foot in and potentially suffer a serious injury.

It was a reference to a post I made earlier - bad start for Arsenal = fans focus all their problems on Sanchez. Good start for Arsenal = fans say we don't need him.

Outcome, the fans are happy to see Sanchez out of the door and the board are happy to comply.

You hold no cards, or if you do, it's a pair of 2s. To say you are in a strong position is ignoring the fact that he can walk soon for fuck all. Sanchez and Arsenal are parties to the same contract. The only difference is, he doesn't lose out if he stays, you do.
