'All Or Nothing' - discussion of documentary

I’m halfway through my second viewing. It’s really enjoyable as a City fan and humanises the players very well. It’s great to see them l celebrate and to try to understand Pep’s rants.

To call it “warts and all” is Pushing it a bit as there aren’t many warts on show. The whole thing is so airbrushed it could easily have been made by our marketing team. The picture quality of the Sky footage is poor and so is the sound mixing: they haven’t got across the big match atmospheres which would have aided the drama because they’ve used canned crowd noise.

Having said that, it looks to me like it will attract a lot of new fans. I see sky have bought it now which will raise its profile again. A good move by the club and I remain impressed by the intelligence of the senior executives.

Finished all 8 episodes last night. The 7th was a hard watch and reminded me how angry I was after those three games, not just with the refereeing but with our players and even Pep himself.

The interesting (and maybe slightly worrying) thing was just how many times Pep had to urge to players to up their mentality and desire and to follow his instructions. I do wonder if some of these players, despite having every possible advantage, still can’t quite find that elite mentality that exists at Barcelona, Real Madrid & Bayern Munich. He said it himself that it’s the one thing that marks them out. I wonder if some of our older players are a little complacent, having come to the latter end of their careers and seemingly satisfied with the medals they’ve got.

When you look at players like Sane and Sterling, the former appears to be a bit of a spoilt brat and I’m not sure he’s going to be with us for much longer if he doesn’t get his head straight. Whereas Sterling, despite all the shit thrown at him, seems to work harder and harder to get better.

You're right, though it seems (purely speculative on my end) Sane is the one with the elite talent but poor work ethic/attitude, and Sterling with the high work-ethic but lacking the extra level of relative technical competency.

Not watched it yet apart from Episode 5 at 29 mins. After Sane scores at Bristol there is a crowd shot and im nearest the camera looking like a right miserable bastard.I had just received an injection in my left shoulder (frozen shoulder, rights fooked too) so was in agony and couldnt raise my arms.Everyone I know who has watched it has took the piss out of me since.

Finishing episode eight off now. I can’t say it’s gripped me as much as I thought it would, however I’ve enjoyed it.

All about John Stones drinking ale on a golf course dressed as the Easter bunny. Future captain.

The only thing that bothers me about this series is that I think it will only be interesting for city fans and to a lesser extent existing premier league fans.

The ‘All or Nothing’ series has usually had better production values and felt more like mini movies than ‘fly on the wall’ documentaries. If you watch the American football versions, they will grip anyone, even if you have absolutely no knowledge or American football.

That’s where I think this has not reached its portential. it won’t, in my opinion, draw in any new fans

That’s the point I made about a lack of depth to the whole thing. A few sub-plots involving arguments or unhappy players would have helped. So would the actual story of the old Trafford tunnel bust-up.

I think the sanitised stuff will pull foreign fans though.

Sky sports radio ran the full trailer yesterday after the match with “Coming Soon”.
Ooh, ta, so maybe it’ll be on Sky and we can record/keep it long term rather than see it a few times before the Amazon 30 day free trial is over?! Nice one
