Altercation at Terminal 2

I understand.

To be clear, what I'm not saying is the 'offending' officer did his actions to protect his female colleague. I don't know the context.

I'm responding to the posters with this mindset.

And, by the response you posted, there was also a second female caught up and she wasn't made to step aside. I didn't see the 'chivalrous' posters protecting the secondary officer who came off unscathed! Hypocrisy, much?

Male or female? No. They are police officers in the job.

This is the job and shit happens.
I think the lack of comment about the second female officer suggests it's more about colleague protection than male chivalry. It could have been early days in the attacked officer's career, we don't know yet, and he felt a need to protect her mainly for that. Or it could be something else of course.

Not when it gets physical. They are better in diffusing these situations before they start though
Possibly-but the last thing I wanted was a big lump who couldn't think or communicate because they were the ones who would get me twatted in the process.

Sometimes we spend so much time arguing which side(sad I know) is right and which is wrong when the probable answer is they both were wrong.

We could end up with both receiving severe punishment for their actions and that might be the correct decision. This seems the likeliest outcome to me with the caveat I've only see the video.
That is a very sensible posting @hilts . Unless you (generic you) were actually there or involved you cannot know exactly what happened.
We just have to wait and see what happens if/when it all goes to court.

Interesting to hear-because that's exactly what friends of mine who are still in the job are saying-many in management positions and some in training.

Many recruits are totally unsuitable -once they are out of their probation it is very hard to sack an officer..thats why recruitment, vetting and training are so crucial. A significant uplift in pay would help attract better quality for starters.

But yeah, I heard an example of the tattoo thing...incredible.

And most definitely your mouth is the best weapon.
Do they still do the residential training, Bruche/Hendon etc? I’m guessing Covid also had an impact on training for new recruits. I’m imagining some lowly Peeler, back in the mid 1800’s, saying to his colleague “I’m telling you mate, the jobs fucked”!

No residential training went years ago-cuts and all that.

I actually went to Bruche..

Ha, I know I sound like the old timers I met when I joined, 'the job's fucked!'

If these four attacked armed police in the airport then they are wankers , the safety of passengers travelling through the airport is paramount. The fact that the officers sustained injuries that required hospital treatment would indicate a pretty severe attack .
People trying to equate it to a fracas on the street or outside the local pub are living in cloud cuckoo land .
Sadly we now live in times where action comes first and words later .

I worked for a few days with a copper who was involved in recruiting, he said the process in a shambles now, he had to point out one of the recruits had racist tattoos ffs how does that even happen. He said the biggest must have skill was communication and being able to defuse situations with words but far too many hotheads were passing through training.

In relation, in my time a doorman, I got caught up in two major fracas, one of which I sustained a huge black eye. I felt the contact but I was in tangled bodies trying separate them all. Never took it personal. In 12 years, that was me.

The rest of the time I used my words to talk patrons out of the possible situations and contain it. But, that's cos I knew I could and would go off given the chance. My other colleagues preferred to just fight and find themselves working inside the venue or elsewhere until the situation calmed itself.

Me? I stayed where I was cos I dealt with people fairly.

Effective communication is a absolute must in high conflict civilian jobs.
