Andy Carroll not good enough for us?

Carroll is a menace, and his footskills are not as bad as many would like us to believe. Personally I don't think it matters who we get up top (at least not as much as it matters who holds on to the ball behind the guy up top.)

There are a series of ways we can go with signings. We could eshew an out and out striker all together, and bring in a few more ball skill players with intelligence. Personally, I'd favor this. Bring in Javier Pastore and David Luiz. Let Balotelli and Jo Come off the bench as backup strikers to Tevez. We wills score more goals. I think City needs to become a team scoring squad, as opposed to a striker dependent one. Lets get more goals from other areas.

Yaya, Silva, Barry, Milner, Johnson, Balottelli, e.t.c. have to score more. Getting 20 from Tevez and 15 from whoever comes in January, and a high of 5 from the next best scorer will be a disappointing trend.

Frankly part of the reason why we are so dependent on Tevez is simply because Tevez himself can be a bit selfish. Even o his 3 goal, Yaya was better positioned and a simple pass would have resulted in a ore likely goal. Luckily Colocini deflected Tevez's tough angle shot in.

Mancini complained about a little too much selfishness earlier in the season, it seems Adam Johnson is the only one who is listening. Last week he gave up a shot to make a pass to Yaya for our goal, and on the Tevez goal, he could have easily taken a shot but instead held back and passed. I think he should be rewarded with a start for some of these acts.

Others need to follow suit. Yaya once on one of his breakaway run had an opportunity to slot Tevez and get a likely open return pass, instead he went alone and lost it. Granted be probably knew Tevez probably wouldn't have given the return pass. Had that been Silva, I can almost swear Yaya would have passed off.

We need to work on these things. Kolarov is another one with that do it all by myself mentality. I love his shots, but he needs to pick and choose when to release them. Certainly not from the touchline or from an acute angle. That is simply just unhelpful. For example watch how Granger, Carroll and the annoying dude (Ex-Bolton chap) time and time again attempted to drop balls for each other in the box. They did it so often you could tell it was by design.

We need to become a little more like them in that respect. Trust your teammate and the pass!
Baines goal for Everton against us was another good example. Everyone letting the ball play as opposed to trying to play it all by themselves.

I understand the newness of the players to each other plays a role in how well they let the ball play, but sometimes it is simply just down to selfishness!

Wait, what was this thread about again? Oh yes, Carroll! good player that :)

Why would we want to sign a rich man's Crouch when we can sign the world's best? I will be devastated if he signs for us. Pathetic.

Bring in Javier Pastore
Lmao I'm sorry mate but have you ever seen Pastore play? Explain to me why we need him when we have a carbon copy in Silva? Get off FM please.

Manchester City + Andy Carroll = The title

Roberto Mancini made little attempt to hide his admiration for Andy Carroll after Manchester City's victory over Newcastle United at St James' Park. "Carroll is a good player," said the Italian. "He's young, he's strong, he's very good. But I don't think that Newcastle want to sell." That much is obvious, but not wanting to sell is not quite the same as not being prepared to sell.

Still, Edin Dzeko would be the easier deal to pull off, given the reports from Germany that Wolfsburg are now prepared to cash in on the Bosnian striker, even if Carroll, having already proved his goalscoring ability in the Premier League (and showing yesterday the sort of problems he can cause even the best sides), would surely be worth the extra effort.

Despite Manchester United's lead at the top the title race remains wide open. This, therefore, in terms of shaping the destination of the Premier League trophy, could be the most important winter transfer window since its inception and City are, undeniably, best placed to make the biggest strides. Mancini clearly wants to add a battering ram to his forward options – and a new arrival, whoever it turns out to be, would necessitate an interesting tactical tweak.

It is hard to see Carroll or Dzeko playing wide in Mancini's 4-3-3/4-5-1, so presumably Carlos Tevez's time as the solitary deep-dropping central frontman would be over. A freer role for the Argentinian, coupled with a physical pivot for City's attacks is a mouthwatering prospect, one that could certainly see them improve in the second half of the season – and, given the tight nature of the title race, City do not need to improve all that much …

For what it's worth.

I'm not 100% sold on Carroll, but the British press are circling the wagons around this guy.

Fuk i hope we get this lad.

This is the same old same old player comes from nowhere and has a fantastic first season in the PL. Second season everyone is wise to him and he does nothing. Yes he is a decent player but no I wouldn't want him. Untested, see how he goes in another 2 seasons.

ya know, just because a striker is tall doesn't mean we'd have to cater to anti-football long ball tactics. He could actually, you know, score from set pieces, something we haven't done this season. How many times has AJ, Milner, Silva, Kolarov, Boateng, whoever blindly crossed a ball for absolutely no one to be on the other end of it. It's a kind of threat that we don't have at the moment.

I have a feeling he won't be a one season wonder! We had two defenders on him and he still caused trouble winning every header and finally scoring! Saying that he wouldn't fit into our team the way we play

Exactly what I was saying earlier in the thread. This seems the SORT of player we need for our attacking to be complete. Not necessarily this player but the SORT of player.
