Anelka

There's an interesting article in the papers today by Erik Bielderman, a French football writer for L'Equipe. When you realise what the background to this incident, there can be no excuse for Anelka's actions and he must surely face a lengthy ban.

A video had apparently emerged of Dieudonne on stage saying the following about Patrick Cohen, a French radio journalist: ‘When I hear him (Cohen), I tell myself, you know, gas chamber . . . too bad.’

The French government reacted by saying it would attempt to ban any future shows by Dieudonne, and this was the headline news in France on the morning of the West Ham v West Brom game.

So that's what Anelka was showing his support for. What a grade A dickhead.

It's pretty clear what dieudonne intended the salute to mean, although he's denied it his right wing extremist views & actions makes the denial look pathetic.

Zoopla is threatening to axe its multi-million pound shirt deal with West Bromwich Albion if Nicolas Anelka continues to play for the club over fears the brand’s Jewish roots are being tarnished by the worsening furore around his controversial ‘quenelle’ goal celebration.

Zoopla has threatened to axe its deal with West Bromwich Albion if Anelka continues to play, according to sources.
Sources have told Marketing Week the property portal warned the West Midlands club it will axe the tie-up with immediate effect if the French striker plays against Everton on Monday (20 January). Zoopla, which is co-owned by Jewish businessman Alex Chesterman, is thought to have delivered the ultimatum earlier this week claiming it does not want to be associated with the gesture because it has anti-Semitic connotations.

It is likely Anelka will face the Merseyside side club next week, however, with one source close to the matter claiming the club is not prepared to let sponsors dictate its team selection. West Brom are believed to have already made early inquires into securing a temporary sponsor for the remainder of the season should Zoopla act on its threat. The property firm’s two-year deal with the club ends this season and the club is “confident’ of being able to find a new long-term backer given the League’s growing popularity, according to the source.

The club has backed the former Arsenal star’s protest that the salute was done as a tribute to French comedian and friend Dieudonné, but has conceded it did cause offence. Anelka could be slapped with a mutli-match ban pending the results of the FA investigation.

A spokesman for the club said: “West Bromwich Albion will be making no further comment until the Football Association has concluded its investigation, and the club its own internal enquiry, into the matter.”

Zoopla did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication.

It is not the first time a Premier League sponsor has had to wade into controversies involving players. In 2012, Standard Chartered slammed Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez for refusing to shake Manchester United’s Patrice defender Evra’s hand ahead of a match and voiced its concerns with the club.

Good on them. People that don't see how serious this is need their heads checking. The same people that are brushing this off are the same people that get offended when someone says something mean about City in the media or when Alan Pardew says a rude word to Pellegrini. Throw the book at idiot and teach him a lesson. There's no room for racism or anti-Semitism in football.

What research have you conducted to come to this conclusion?

There was a baseball player named Tony Fernandez who played for about 15 teams in his career.
He even went over to Japan to continue his career. I am not sure how many teams Anelka has played for
but I am sure it would be close.

Eight clubs for Tony F mate. French Nick has been at eleven.
At least Tony spent nine years in Toronto. Le sulk has already been at three more clubs, and the longest he spent at one club was four years at chelsea.

Whatever anyone in this situation means by it, of itself, the salute at shoulder arms has nothing to do with National Socialism.

Just google "salute at shoulder arms" or "shoulder arms salute" or "rifle salute". Posting a picture of some HJ no more makes it "Nazi" than me asking whether Joe Hart's latest "do" is intrinsically suspicious. I think the Japanese used to use it, and the ze French if memory serves.
