Am I going senile or didn't Anelka sometimes celebrate goals in a quite a similar fashion when he played for City?

He shouldn't have done it although I doubt there was any ill intent.

He didn't celebrate at all when he was with us.
The most I remember him celebrating was the derby when he ran to the fans who grabbed him and started hugging him.
He used to do some kind of bird (dove?) thing with his hands, thumbs around each other and the other fingers being the wings - but not at City

im surprised Anelka has any friends, let alone a comedian friend.... I dont think Ive ever seen him smile.

You know full well, don't be so immature .......

No I don´t. I have a deep dislike of Israel, the state. I imagine most arab´s dislike of Israel is much stronger than mine. They are therefore entitled to expresss that belief.

Hatred of Jewish people is an altogether dofferent kettle of fish and should be dealt with extremely strongly.

Which is it?

It's both in my opinion, as they are one and same.

Why do you have a deep dislike of the state ? and why is it ok for people to have a go at Israel or
Jewish people but not ok to call a teddy bear Mohammad for example?.

The deliberate conflation of criticism of the Israeli state's govt policies, criticsim of anti Zionism and Anti Semitism astounds me..

Does Israel not have a significant population of 'Arab Israelis' ?

Is it not ok for them and the rest of the free world to criticize the behaviour of the Israeli Govt, especially when it caves in to the policies of the Zionist Right
Is it not okfor us and our Palestinian neighbours to call the illegal Settlements in the west bank illegal (as the UN has done).. just wait 'til we Welsh reclaim England as 'the land of of our forefathers' (which it was ,,, but we don't .. notr should we .. it's absurdbut take me on anytime on this subject, i beg you .. )

I have contacts with groups of jewish israelis who don't buy this as well

The sooner the Israeli Govt can have the honesty and cohones to address this problem bilaterally and can treat thair non jewish christian & muslim minotities with respect , and the sooner they have the bollox to stand up to the Zionist extremists, who seem to be the tail wagging the dog in that country, the better

If you want to waste my time calling this anti semitic, please wank yourselves off doing so
when most of you were in primary school I was working hard at the 1977 Labour Party Conference in Brighton alongside many wonderful members of the London Jewish community working on addressing the middle eastern and cold war issues of the time (Labour Action for Peace)

So I'll take no lessons from Zionist apologists, who seem intent on an agenda of expansionism and oppression

Anelka and his like just feed you lot ammo.. this just obfuscates the social injsutices that Israel presides over , and act as apologists for in, Palestine

Sorry, 'The madinventor' I don't buy your (un)subtle slight of hand..

BTW Mr Madinventor ..do you even live there?

Check out the Israeli left (e.g. Jewish Voice for Peace) who do live there and are seeking multilateral agreements and ways forward and are taking on the risks of doing so

I support the rights of Tibetans and their language , culture as well as their rights to their own state.. this does NOT mean that I have a racist hatred of peopl who are Han Chinese

So don't you fookin dare conflate our concerns over the Israeli bullyboy tactics with 'anti semitism' ... we've spotted the trope and don't buy it

Extremely well said Dom. It is very frustrating to listen to people who equate anti-semitism with an anti-israel stance.

I would also like to apologise to the MadInventor. In a previous post I stated that the land formerly known as Palestine had had ann Arab majority population for 2000 years. I was tired and wrong.

After the Jewish diaspora it was some time before Mohammed led his people out of the area now known as Saudi Arabia. It is probably closer to the mark to say that from around 800 AD until 1948 Palestine had a huge Arab majority.

In fact the small number of Jews who lived in the area and the Arabs were both under the dominion of the Turks who ruled the area under the Ottoman empire until 1918 when Britain took over.

As an aside to this I wonder if The MadInventor knows but when the British left, Arab residents of Haifa and many other towns were given 48 hours by the Irgun, Israeli terrorists/freedom fighters depending on your view, to leave town. This is how the Jewish state of Israel came into existence and it caused a huge refugee problem in neighbouring countries that still exists today.

Obviously I defend the right for anyone to support the Israeli state as some people think they were certainly owed a state after the awful events of the Holocaust. However equally one must not forget the people who became dispossessed in 1948.

This Dieudonne bloke makes frankie boyle seem normal.
A slippery fucker though.
Dieudonne M’bala M’bala is an extremist. He started on the left, which drew him towards events in Palestine and Israel, and as this obsession grew he moved right, to Holocaust denial, 9/11 conspiracy theories, flirtations with the language and actions of anti-Semitism and hanging around with Jean-Marie Le Pen, the former president of Front National.
Dieudonne is a comedian. In 2008, he gave the academic and Holocaust denier Robert Faurisson an ‘insolent outcast’ prize on stage in Paris. The award was presented by an assistant dressed in a concentration camp outfit, complete with yellow star. Perhaps you had to be there.
Dieudonne has been convicted on eight occasions of offences linked to anti-Semitism — as well as a more recent court appearance, in which he was fined close to £700,000 for tax evasion — has links to Iran and Hezbollah and the implications of la quenelle have been discussed by President Francois Hollande.
Until now, the stance has been that the gesture is too vague to invite prosecution, but as its use has grown, so the government has become nervous.
It is easy to understand why. Check YouTube for pictures of la quenelle at weddings and parties, by soldiers, policemen, on ski trips and, of course, at Auschwitz. In one reel, it is shown performed at the Holocaust memorials in Berlin and New York, on a deportation wagon in Drancy, outside synagogues in Paris, Bordeaux, Budapest and Barcelona, at the Wailing Wall and on innumerable rues de la Juiverie.
One thing for sure,he's now got the publicity he obviously craves, dear me.

If this arm gesture is a call for revolution against the French/British Government or the European Establishment I'm cool with it and not one person should be punished. But if this is inciting anti semitism or hatred of Israel and bringing it into the mainstream, I'm totally against and the full weight of the Law should be applied.

It may be a case of some nutters misappropriating a symbol for their own beliefs (like the NF with the Union Jack)

I might have known it would be my fucking fault.
Seriously though, it was a daft thing to do, and if you had been playing in France you would have been banned instantly.
Football doesn't need this kind of shite - we have enough anti-Semitic wankers supporting teams in the former soviet block, not to mention Italian ultra bell ends with similar repugnant beliefs.
Politics has no place in football.
He deserves any punishment that is handed out.
